I just joined these forums, mainly because I love the Dolphins and have been reading here for a month or so, but secondly I wanted to give my take on the 3rd and 2. For some reason I can't stop thinking of why they would pass in that situation other than to give Gus the chance to succeed and be the hero. If it ended with results of a Gus game tying TD then the critisim stops and everybody shuts up. This is Linehans guy and it seems that Gus would be our starting QB at the beginning of the year no matter what. So Gus, Please shut everybody up or be a man and take a seat on the bench. I'm Sure Sage would love the chance to show us why he's been a dolphin for this long.

I dont think they where trying to make Gus a "hero", I think it was a good play call. We had been running all over them the whole drive so the logical thing to do would be run the ball and pound it, but they played it right. The only mistake from a playcalling perspective is that they had Ricky and Ronnie on the field at the same time. All day when they were on the field together the play was a pass. Other than that it was a good call, with a bad result.

As far as gus sitting the bench, I dont think Saban is going to put Gus on the bench until we are out of the playoff race. If we drop out of the race then we may see Sage get a shot, but until then I think we all have to deal with Gus as bad as it sucks. I dont think Sage would do much better though to be honest. So you might as well start the experienced below average QB than the non-experienced below average QB.

Oh yeah, Welcome to the boards. You have discovered the biggest wealth of dolphins information available.

I agree with you on Sage. Gus just hasn't been getting the job done. He looks scared, not like a vet QB should look out there. It would be something if he would come out and say "I'm not helping the team out, maybe I should help groom the younger players." I would give him alot of respect for doing something like that.

that would be great, but after the NE game if we lose... if we win he is the man until we are officially eliminated.

I don't think many people would have changed their minds about Gus from one pass in the red zone.
Gus is what he is, he is innacurate but I think he is the best option we have at the moment. Saban decides who starts and who doesn't and Sage obviously isn' performing that well in practice to get the start.

It's not that complicated

Saban and Co. were simply trying to catch Atlanta by surprise. With Atlanta stacking the box to stop the running game they thought that not only could they get the 1st by passing but the TD.

But they didn't stack the box because they knew it was a pass. Miami came out in the R&R formation which almost always means pass. There was no surprise there. A Falcons player was even quoted after the game saying they knew it was a pass because of the formation. That's what made it a bad call.

The pass was fine, but I personally think we should have called something in the endzone. I dont understand the 3 yard pass play. You either commit to running it twice if neccesary to get the first or you throw to the endzone to try to catch them thinking run, then come back with 4th down and your options are still open to both the pass and the run. Just my thoughts

its so which ever way the wind blows

If Linehan had it to do all over again, he would have run the ball. It was working regardless of how they stacked the line. Ronnie Brown was killing them. Any you all know it! It was third down in four down territory. It also runs the clock down and we control the time with our timeouts. Any idiot OC with half a brain could figure that out.

And if you all agree with the call so much, yet Gus is the reason for the screwup, then why would you pass at that time? We dont have Peyton Manning. The call was wrong! We should have drilled them one more time on the run and called timeout if need be and devise a play that would nail it. Its really not that hard to figure out. You go with what got you there until they stop it. They werent stopping it!

I was at the game and can tell you that the Atlanta defense was noticeably tired at that point in the game.

At the beginning of the drive I told my friend that we could run the ball right down their throats if we chose to.

In my opinion, there is no chance that we would have been prevented from gaining at least a first down if we gave the ball to Ronnie on 3rd down and/or on 4th down if necessary.

This keeping Frerotte at qb until we are illiminated is stupid, thats like saying were going to stick with the blind bus driver until he drives us off the cliff !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im not real mad, even though everyone was covered on that play! We were pretty lucky to get the scores we got, we had some fortunate fumbles go our way.

The only bright side is the play wasnt a reverse to chambers:rolleyes:

Is that probably what Linehan told Saban? Everyone is so disappointed when we came so close and the players played hard this game so I feel sorry for those that gave such an effort. Well, I expect we won't be winning any more games this year with the setup as it now exists and with no solution but to wait till next year. A problem with all of this may be what Linehan conveyed to Gus (using his Viking experience) and Linehan not playing to our strengths, like a lot here have said but there is definitely something wrong in Linehans dept. (just IMO)
