Whisenhunt is my first choice for many reasons. He understands running the football and being strong upfront once and for all. He is young and has a ring. He has learned under one of the best coaches of all time in Cowher, and should be hungry. He wouldn't cost draft pick compensation. He seems no-nonsense in approach and hopefully can lead as a CEO type. Hopefully he would keep Capers as defensive coordinator. My only fear would be that he would keep Mularkey. I'd rather he promote Garrett. JG knows the in-house talent and is considered a bright guy, which Mularkey most certainly is not.

Cowher would be great but I am skeptical of the draft pick compensation. Now if they hire him for the one year consultant gig as Peter King proffered, I do not think that is absurd. It would give him a year to assess the organization, personnel etc. And frankly we are such a mess right now, this may be needed. This very well could be a 4-5 year re-building mode if we go that way. if we take this route, I would read it as a signal that we are in long term rebuilding mode.

Gailey and Mora are retreads with Moron being especially amateurish. He'd be the worst possible choice.

Cam Cameron has a good offensive mind but he appears to lack the leadership/CEO qualities a head coach requires. I am an Indiana alum and I can write a thesis on why he seems to be ill-equipped. Now maybe he has grown as a coach in the meantime, but he certainly had trouble running an entire operation down there. Being an x's and o's man is fine but being a head coach is a different animal because you need to be in charge of the bigger picture. I have my doubts in Cam in that respect.

Rivera may very well be a good choice. He has fire and worked on some good d's in Philly and Chicago. But my guess is we're going offensive coordinator. That would make more sense especially if we can keep Dom.

Tomlin sounds good but he needs to pay his dues for another year or two before he is ready for a job like Miami's. Maybe he would work better in a lesser job Atlanta's. I'd like to see that.

Brian Schottenheimer is not a legitimate candidate.

The Jets' Schottenheimer as coach would be cool with me as long as we retained Capers as defensive oordinator. I think our offensive problems would be solved instantly with his hiring but since he's so green I'm not sure that he understands the delegation and time management of the position as well as defense.

It would be a bold but risky move but one that could return great rewards. If it failed we could dump him and go after Fisher in 2008 when his contract runs out

Good post. Whisenhunt is also my first choice. However, my gut feeling is that Capers and Mularky will not stick if chosen. Usually there are hard feelings when someone is passed over for a promotion and the new regime may want to bring in their guys. Also, I'm not sure what they'll think of Caper's consultant title.

I really like Rivera as my second choice with a good OC. He seems to have the right mental stuff.

Good to see someone else with first hand knowledge of Cameron. As a Purdue alumni I was sad to see him get fired from IU. He has shown he can take great players and lead an offense but I have doubts he can manage coaches.

I think we should hire Whisenhunt. Got a good feeling about him.

Haven't heard that Capers was interested. Read that Mularky said he would be and if he left pouting when he gets turned down, I doubt very many people would care.

"Capers, who along with Mularkey joined Saban's staff this past season, was the head coach at Carolina (1995-98) and Houston (2002-05).

"I think anybody in this business, when opportunities present themselves, you certainly want to look at them," Capers said."

You're probably correct, he doesn't sound very interested as I read it for a second time. Also, I wouldn't care about Mularky either. Just saying that coaches usually don't stay with a new regime but with Wisenhunt it depends on his past relationship with Dom.

I could see Capers staying if Whisenhunt came to Miami because of the Pittsburgh connection. Plus, he frankly may have no better options.

O'Rly?

Yeah, I don't know that I agree with that comment about Schottenheimer, either. My biggest obstacle to Schotts is the same as I have for Tomlin. They both did some good things in their first year as coordinators, but I really wish I had another year to see what they could do. Tomlin's pass defense was pretty bad and the Jets offensive rankings were pretty pedestrian. My hunch is that they will both improve their squads if they don't get a promotion this go round, but are they ready to head up the show? There is definitely more of a risk/reward factor with both of them than the more experienced guys.

He won't make the second round of interviews. He will be one of the 7 marked off the candidate list.

Speculation. Besides, the comment was that he was not a legitimate candidate, which has indisputably been proven false.
