Well, looks like we'll be getting the game in early. With that said, here's my take on the upcoming game.

Unlike many casual fans in the NFL, I think the Dolphins are a legitimate team that can play with anybody, as long as they do two things. 1) run the football well, and 2) control the clock.

I think it's imperative that the Dolphins do both of these things if they want to win the game. While the Chiefs appear to be strong against the run this season, those stats are a bit misleading. In the first two games of the year (against the Jets and the Raiders) ... both teams fell behind early and were forced to pass the rest of the game.

As for the game against the Eagles, they just never decided to run. They threw the ball up & down the field against us.

With that said, I think our defense, if we choose to, can be decently balanced in both defending the run AND the pass. The problem is, we're so committed to trying to stop the run, that we're really struggling with pass defense, as often times we bring Sammy Knight up close to the line of scrimmage, leaving Dexter McCleon (a major liability) in man-to-man, which is just brutal.

Now, the Chiefs DO have CB Eric Warfield returning, and most of us Chiefs fans believe that he will make a HUGE difference. It will allow Gunther Cunningham to play more man-to-man press coverage with Surtain and Warfield (both excellent man-to-man defenders) and that, in turn, will give him the opportunity to let his LB's (Derrick Johnson & Kendrell Bell) to roam free.

As for the Chiefs offensively against the Dolphins ... well, what can I say. I think that we could struggle again. It's no secret that our offense has yet to establish any type of rhythm since the second series of the 1st game of the year against the Jets. We're trying to find ways to BEST utilize Larry Johnson and Priest Holmes, and we're still struggling to get the Ball into Tony Gonzalez's hands. I look for the Chiefs to target Tony early & often and try to get him involved in the game.

Overall, I think your defense will neutralize our offense for the most part, despite the possibility of not having Jason Taylor and Junior Seau. I'm a huge Zach Thomas fan, and I never enjoy lining up against him.

Do I think you guys will hold us to under 21 points? No. Do I think you guys will win? Quite honestly, I don't think so.

I think both teams REALLY want this win badly, and for the same reason. Neither team is far behind in the playoff hunt.

But I will say, that I have to give the Friday edge to the Dolphins. The Chiefs have been distracted all week by the potential of the Hurricane, and from everything I've heard, Nick Saban has kept his team FOCUSED. Not to mention the fact that many Dolphins players are used to this by now.

Overall, I look forward to a great game. I'm not one to predict a final score, because I think it's pointless, but in my unbiased opinion, I believe the Chiefs will win by about 10 points or so.

I usually have a pretty good feel for the Chiefs, as I have picked all of their games correctly on the year. In fact, their loss AT denver on Monday Night was my best bet of the year, sadly.

Good luck guys and stay safe. Should be a good night to play some football!

Thanks for the thoughtful post.

I think it's going to be one hell of a game, especially now with it being moved to Friday night and the possibility of it being a nationally televised game.

I expect some hard-nosed, good old-fashioned D!

The one thing that really works in the Dolphin's favor is that they are playing at home. They have been a different team on the road than at home. On the road they've been an embarrassment. The way they've played at home they can play with and beat anyone. If that trend continues then the the Chiefs will lose. On the other hand if they revert to the penalty plagued, turnover prone team we've seen the last two weeks then the Chiefs will roll.

First off, good post. I think the game will hinge mostly on whether we can shut Gonzalez down. The last time we played that guy tore us up. I'm fairly certain our run defense will hold their own, but our secondary has been hurting. This game is a big game for both teams. Whoever cathes the early break takes it. I just hope it's the Fins......

Very objective, except for the 10 points. I'm looking forward to seeing Surtain again. I'm also looking forward to seeing Vermiel cry like a [edit] when the game's over.

Mod edit: Please don't circumvent the profanity filter.

It'll be nice to see Surtain again. Maybe we can have him play for us one more time. You know, for old time's sake...

Very TRUE, the home field has been our bread and butter so far. If you play the team that beat Denver and Carolina then KC is going down in flames!! If you play the team that gave up games on the road then vice-versa...

Tough game but I think our guys are gonna be salivating after the last two outings. We've been VERY physical at home so far.

Yeah, Saban isn't stupid though, the last time we played KC they matched Tony on Zach every down which of course is a huge mismatch from a height advantage... Have a linebacker or DE bump him at the line and a Safety or corner cover him. I think we need to physically handle him bump him off his routes. I hope we clean up the blitz errors our D had last week too.

Well, believe me, nobody is more aware of the fact that the Chiefs CANT win in Florida. In fact, our only Florida win over the last 4 years was AT miami. anyways, i think the fact that the game is on a friday sort of takes away from your home field advantage. I have no reasoning behind that statement whatsoever, except for the fact that I don't think the stadium will be full, and the fact that it just doesn't seem right playing on a Friday night.

Most of these players haven't done that since high school. I think both teams will come out flat. Their minds will probably be somewhere else, and I can hardly blame them.

Very good and well thought out post. I disagree about the 10 pt victory. I have a feeling this is going to be a closer game than most think. I honestly think the victor will win by a max of 6 points. Just a gut feeling for some reason. Mainly bc I think both defenses are going to come to play and the offenses may be a little slower to respond.

Your probably right, but miami can't afford to come out flat, the chiefs offense is too explosive.

You are just a homer. Not that there is anything wrong with that.:D

Excelent post, well thought out and unbiased. Though I think with all that is going on, there are way too many variables to predict any score. Will the weather be okay tomorow night, or will it be like last year against the Steelers? Holmes(best back in the league in my opinion) vs Ricky and Ronnie(the most lethal 1-2 punch in the NFL right now). With the game being moved up, sure, there may only be 30,000 fans there, but they will be the loudest, most hostile 30,000 fans you will ever meet. Can Gus prove effective? Can we establish our identity as a guard dog at our house, despite being a duck on the road? All of these questions will be answered and in my opinion, this game may be a very close game

Thanks for actually taking time to make a insightful post. I believe and agree with most you said. :)

EXELLENT POST!!! I am looking forward to a great matchup. Surtain was one of my favorite players on the Fins, although he will be in a different uniform; it'll be good to see him on the field as long as he's not picking off any balls against us ;) .

BUT ON THE OTHER HAND....

Right now, I'm bent on revenge from the last time we played you guys. It's not against you or your team, my focus is pointed at Dick Vermeil :fire:. I remember he made a comment after the last game against us that pissed me off. I can't remember the comment verbatim, but he said to the media "we really stuck it in their a*s!!!" I thought it was a really classless comment made towards a reeling team, and I hope we can stick it in his a*s this time  .
