Although still bothered about our wr and cb situation, must admit this is as good as I have felt about a draft in over a decade. I will give impressions and then list who I would have taken.

1-Jake Long LT- Besides trading down which I guess was not an option this was unquestinably our best move. In retrospect we would have had very little to choose from if we had waited to take a LT. This pick shows the new regime prefers Carey at RT and are committed to building our line.

My pick Jake Long

2a-Phillip merling DE- I have no doubt the original plan was to take Chad Henne here but with Brohm and Henne still on board they could not pass on a player that some had rated as just outside the top 10. To get the second rated defensive end at this point was too great of value. Great motor ,just needs to heal. HAs good size and frame to get bigger. I dont see him being moved to OLB. This move along with the next round probably means Holiday better not get too comfortable. matt Roth time could be quite short also. I think this also make Starks a DT for us. As a pass rusher Merling needs some work but great value at this pick.

My Pick hell I would not have passed up a player this high rated either.
Phillip Merling.

2b-Chad Henne QB- We got very lucky much like last year that a team fell in love with a differant qb. I would never have drafted Flacco over Henne but understand Brohm over Henne. Henne is a very good prospect and no matter what anyone thinks, drafting a qb in the second speaks volumes to the fact that the braintrust is not sold on Beck. im pretty sure after talking with Lee thye did not hear enough to say we definately have our qb in beck. Beck still has a chance but becoming Derek Anderson does not happen very often. THis is the only time in recent history that a team has drafted qb's this high two years in a row. Everybody on this board basically knew Chad was coming but many did not want it to happen. How many in chat room kept chanting No Chad Henne? We did not take a second round pick out on a qb to energize Beck, no NFL team does that. This is the current regimes choice for Qb. Is Chad Henne our future ,hmm who knows because there are no cant miss prospects but John Beck better play lights out. I dont think being a rookie hurts Henne's chances at all since all three qb's are playing in a new system. Never a bad thing to have multiple prospects at Qb it increases our chances of finding a starter worth a damn. Henne has all the tools and was a 4year starter playing against defenders that are now on nfl teams. Great pick.

My pick - day one i fell like i'm making the picks lol
Chad Henne.

3-Kendell Langford DE- Now this is one player I thought someone else was going to reach on andf actually hoped for it. In my opinion this was our target for the second of our 2nd round picks but Merling dropping changed things. I like him as a player but thought he was a slight reach. Good size and frame. Think he is a De for us but have heard a few mention OLB in 3-4, dont buy it though. langford needs alot of work but looks like a player. Have no problem with pick but thought we shpuld have went corner here.

My pick- Reggie Smith CB (okla) guy reminds me alot of Pat Surtain. Posible first round pick that fell because of 40 time.

4-Shawn Murphy G (utah St) At first did not like the pick, but was probably best true guard left on board. s a very good run blocking guard.
This pick really has grown on me alot and if I were to make decision today this would probably be my pick.

My pick-Carl Nicks G - I just think Collins and Nicks were better prospects but Murhpy was a good pick that I predict he will easily be our starter at G.

6-Jalen Parmalee Rb (Tol) Looks like a solid prospect but would have went after other players here. Good north south runner with speed and size.

My pick-Athyba Rubin DT- Would be a great fit ina 3-4 and to me is a much better prospect than Solai.

6b-Donal Thomas G- Uconn- Great late round prospect that may be in mix for guard spot. Good size and speed for lineman. Prokect much like Morimino but just seems a more natural athlete.

My pick
Adrian Arrington WR Mich- great talent and we need WR.

6c-Lex Hilliard FB- Was mad at first because I forgot who he was lol. Good lower division runner who does not have speed at this lvel to be a rb but is considered a FB prospect. Very tough player who I think will help us send Mauia packing ,I just hope he doesnt look at mauia.

My pick- After trading Booker a rb was a slight need. Allen Patrick of Oklahoma looks like a solid pick.

7-Lional Dotson DT- Great 7th round pick, bye bye solai. Needs to add some size but should have went alot sooner.

My pick-Marcus monk Wr, we are very weak at receiver so Monk this late is great value.

Overall a very good draft that shows that they had a plan and basically stuck to it. Our oline and dline should be much improved. CB and WR are still huge question marks but Rome was not built in a day. I seriously think we drafted future starters at QB,LT,G,DE,DT and FB. Good job B plus.

recovering from draft and chasing women lol.Hard to do both. Hard choices get on message board or spend time with woman that just graduated law school that is sexy as hell and 16 years junior. I took latter lol.

Must admit been some quiet times on board from all those that predicted we would not draft a qb until late. Now the tune has changed to they drafted Henne to inspire beck lol. I love the logic that Henne at 32 would have been an indictement of Beck but at 57 it was just about value. The dolphins had no clue that merling was gonna fall that far. Some people thought Merling might go to Jags in the move up. Not saying Beck wont be our starter but clearly he did not blow away the braintrust and I think this speaks volumes for Irleland's opinion of Beck this year and last year. Just because people say nice things about a player does not mean they are enamoured with them. I think its good to have three guys competing for a starting job. Neither Beck or Mccown have earned anything yet so lets see what happens.

I was not gonna open yet another 'My take on the draft' until I saw it was dlockz... As always, insightful and well supported intelligent post.

Can anyvbody help me with a Chad Henne sig. I still think Ryan is a stud but I do think there was one player better in this draft and that was Jake Long.

Exactly. Just look at the talent sitting there at pick 57 we couldve taken. A team with all the lack of talent we have does not spend that pick on a QB if they feel there is a good chance they already have their guy on the roster. No way we took Henne just to "push" Beck or to compete with him. Ridiculous idea.

Just because we didnt take him 32 dosent mean anything for Beck. Henne was a target of ours all along because he's the guy the FO WANTS to be their QB of the future. NOT BECK.

Dont you believe Bill knew Henne would be there at 57, or was at least somewhat confident he would be? Im sure he wouldve known if Minn, Carolina, or Chicago was interested in Henne as a round 2 pick. They wouldve had meetings with him like we did.

He didnt reach unlike Scam Cameron who RRRRREEEEAAACHED for Beck last year. Heck Reid probably traded up to get Kolb last year because he knew Cam the boob would reach for Beck and start a run on QBs. Either that or he ordered a pizza that would be arriving about the time he picked and wanted to trade up so he could eat without the inconvinience of having to break to make a pick later on.

LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!! i couldnt agree LESS, but hilarious statement that made me literally laugh out loud. We may agree on the whole beck thing, but you guys definately keep things interesting around here.

Thanks buddy. Its refreshing to see someone who disagrees and yet not only can refrain from insulting, but find humor in a funny statement, even if it makes an argument contrary to your own belief. I have no problem with anyone who thinks differently on the Beck issue and its nice to see someone who dosent need to start insulting just because of that. :hi5: GO PHINS!!!!

Not sure Beck was reach but I would have been happier with Edwards. I aid this all draft season last year. In retrospect we should have drafted Quinn in the first and then we would not have been drafting a qb again this year. Amazingly a team has not drafted qb this high two years in a row in a long time, i will look it up later.

Peronsally I think Henne is the backup plan for Beck. Lets look at it like this.....If BP and Co. didn't take a QB in this draft that is supposed to be halfway decient, and Beck looked horrible this year they would be criticized very harshly, but now we have a backup plan. If Beck isn't good now, they say now big deal we have Henne to come in and play. Its really a good move by BP and Co. not the big deal that I think a lot of people are making it though.

I respect your opinion but taking Booty in the fifth is a backup plan, taking a qb in the second is choosing the Qb you want to run the team, whether it happens or not.
