Make It Rain!
I think that the Phins are not going after Manning, but are going to pursue Flynn and then go for best WR available in the draft. This lovefest for Manning will soon end when he picks a team not called the Miami Dolphins. I am thinking the Broncos since they have the cap space or possibly Tennessee. The Phins had to at least make a weak attempt at getting Manning because otherwise it would like they were not doing their due diligence.
So Flynn would be our guy... love him or hate him... he's familiar with the offense, he's young and he's worked with Philbin before. I think that was one of the major upsides to making Philbin our HC.
So with Flynn in tow, we don't bother to draft a QB this year... because we will already have our young gun. Moore would be the back-up. We can use some of the cap money to keep maybe Merling or get another DE in FA. Get our S in Reggie Nelson or CB in Richard Marshall and move Sean Smith to S. We will take a chance on Eric Winston for our OT. Maybe sign Laurent Robinson to upgrade our WR corp.
So then we may move up in the draft to get Blackmon or trade back and get someone who has value later in the 1st. Either way WR will be the first position they look at. Then we get our DT in the 2nd. Clay and Fasano will be our TE's btw and we won't draft another one yet.
So look at this way... we are finding people that fit the system with the "potential" of
Flynn/Moore > Henne/Moore
Winston > Colombo
Blackmon/Robinson > Marshall/ "scrub"
Nelson or Marshall > "scrub"
So that's me looking for the silver lining and seeing the coach has probably had some say as to who he thinks will be a good fit for his system. Also Marshall is not good for chemistry and would likely badmouth Flynn the first chance he gets. He's done it with Henne and Moore. Out with the old, in with the new WCO. It's about the system and finding the pieces for it. Not the other way around.
