My thoughts on the Dolphins/Saints game... First off, I would like to say that this was a good hard fought game by both teams. I just cannot understand how the refs had to interfere with the such a great game and effectively spot the saints 14 points.

The plays that changed the game and the dolphins season for the worse....

1) Dolphins lead 24-3 late in the 2nd quarter and are at or around the saints 40 yardline. Davone Bess catches the ball on a short pass and is hit and "fumbles" the ball. The saints get the ball and return it into dolphin territory. The play gets challenged and there is sufficient evidence to show that Bess's knee was clearly down before the ball came out. The refs botch the call and this leads to a touchdown right before the half. The dolphins would have had a chance to attempt a field goal if the refs get this call right. Also, it should be noted that Tony Sparano outsmarts himself during this comedy of errors by attempting to freeze the kicker on a chipshot, 21yd fg, with 5 seconds left. Brees talks coach Sean Peyton into going for it and calls his own number for the Touchdown. This gives the saints some momentum going into the half and are down 24-10. A potential 27-3 game turns into a 24-10 game.

2) Barely a minute into the second half, Chad Henne throws a deep ball to Ted Ginn Jr, who's hands are like that of a brick mason, and he bobbles the ball right into the hands of Darren Sharper. Sharper returns the ball back for an apparent touchdown. The play is challenged by the dolphins and the evidence showed that Ted Ginn Jr, trying to make up for his blunder, chases Sharper down from behind and punches the ball out at the 1yd line. The ball goes out of the side of the endzone and should have been ruled a touchback. The refs debacle the call once again and the saints are back in the game, 24-17.

After being a witness to a robbery that took place in last nights main event of the UFC, and now being thrown into another stick-up of epic proportions today in Miami, I feel violated by the officials of both sports. It's ashame to watch the players/fighters put their blood, sweat, and tears into a game/fight and to then have the "officials" steal the victory from the participants, is unconscionable to say the least. After being violated in consecutive days, I can truly say that i have ZERO faith in the people who are suppose to protect the integrity of their respective sports.

I would have posted this sooner but i was not able to access this site for some reason.

Refs with bad calls or not even after the bess fumble, the dolphins D had a chance to stop them and they couldn't. Sporano wasn't trying to freeze the kicker he had wrong personnel on field, not like it would have mattered it was a chip shot. Sean Payton said they were gonna go for it either way and would not have kicked a fg.

I believe on the sharper "fumble" since it was ruled a td on the field there was not enough evidence to overturn it

no, sean payton said brees had to talk him into going for the TD during miami's Time out.

That's a bunch of bs...I could care less what his reasons were. I instantly started cursing at the t.v. bc i knew what was coming next.

Not to mention if the refs got the initial call right, which was Colston down at the 1yd line, the saints had no timeouts and the half would have expired.

Another botched call by the officials.

Look, i'm not trying to make excuses for the dolphins loss, i'm simply pointing out that the refs were directly responsible for spotting the saints 14pts. Despite this, we still should have won the football game. Terrible play calling in the 4th quarter, dropped balls, and Gibril Wilson not being able to make a tackle, is the main reason for the dolphins losing the game but to gloss over these game changing calls by the officials is inexuseable.

Blaming the refs in those two plays is wrong, to turn over a call made on the field the evidence has to be indisputable and they weren't. There was no tv angle to defenitely tell if the ball was out before Sharper crossed the goalline. Both calls if they were called the opposite on the field would have probably stood up because the evidence was not indisputable.

The officals didn't fumble the ball, or tip the ball into the defenders arms instead of catching it, the refs didn't drop many other passes, the refs didn't stop Miami from running the football in the 2nd half so don't blame them. We blew it, some players blew it and some coaches blew it. Those calls were real close and it sucks being on our end of them but it happens.

This whole "indisputable" evidence is a bunch of bs and i'll tell you why. If the official makes the call in our favor, then the play stands as called on the field. Official tend to hide behind their original ruling on the field and it is the move of a coward. On the sharper play, the ball was out before the goaline. You don't need a "perfect camera angle" to see this. A completely different officiating crew could have came to a completely different consensus on both of the plays in question. This replay system has flaws to it and is not perfect. There needs to be cameras looking directly down the goaline in order to solve all these questionable rulings by the officials. With that being said, I agree that we blew the game and this is not an attempt to exuse the players. I'm simply stating that these 2 plays were questionable at best.

How can they not have a TV angle on the goal line at the far end ? There are cameras on both sidelines at the goal line for every game, for obvious reasons.

What happened here ? There should have been a camera angle right on the goal line when Sharper fumbled the ball at the one.

am i the only one who actually thought bess was losing the ball as he went down? we cant all be blind homers all the time can we?

This is not blind homerism, it was a questionable call at best. People tend to gloss over these plays like they didn't have a huge impact on the game.

In the end, it comes down to a judgment call that has to be made by an official who is not perfect. Also, the officials are almost handcuffed to their initial ruling on the field. I understand that part of their job is to make a decision on these tough calls but it is not a stretch to say that they botched both of them.

What you call blind homerism, I say its "calling it like I see it." This is what I saw and the official saw different. 3 of my friends, who are not dolphins fans, agreed that the officials stole this game away from the dolphins. I guess the theory of blind homerism isn't holding up or is it?

I don't know what happened but it seems to happen way to often.

I would like to apologize to the TS "did the refs have money on the game?" The thoughts you brought up and some others brought up is basically the exact same things I brought up. I didn't mean to hijack your idea but this is the exact same thread that I posted immediately after the game on walterfootball and footballguys. I was trying to get on to these forums and post my thoughts as well but for some reason i'm never able to access these boards after the game. I guess it has something to do with the amount of traffic on the site.
