Thank You Chad Pennington
The common consensus was to wait until year three to really see what we have in Ted Ginn Jr. He (and his family) have been heavily debated since his controversial the selection at #9 overall in the 2007 draft.I am not here to discuss his draft value at #9. I want to talk about his ability to be a true #1 WR in this league.
Coming off an 11 catch 108 yard performance on MNF. I can definitively say that I no longer believe he has the potential to be that #1 WR.
This is not a thread to bash Ted Ginn. I still think he can be a very good WR in this league, just in the #2 role.
In my mind, a true #1 receiver needs to be a playmaker, that one person that when he is in 1 on 1 coverage you take the shot knowing he will get the ball. Ted has greatly improved his route running from last season, but I just don’t see that dependability a true #1 needs to have.
The breaking point in my evaluation being the two dropped touchdown passes in the Colts game. The simple matter of fact is a true #1 makes those plays. At least one of those plays. Both of those plays were by no means easy, but makeable.
I know most of you will cite the Henne argument, saying that Pennington cannot deliver the ball downfield. That is not what I am talking about. You can still be a great #2 WR and catch downfield passes, I just do not believe Ginn has the intangibles to be a true #1 in the NFL. Not to mention, Ted would greatly benefit from having that true #1 on the other side of him.
