Does anyone know what we have with Nate Garner? Behind Long and Carey, what do we have for backup tackles? Ndukwe was not impressive at guard, and I would hazard a guess that he would not project well to tackle. I did not see the lateral quickness to fend off outside pass rushers.

We bring in Berger who is an inside guy. When he was here under Saban, he was a guard/center. He moved to Dallas and was a backup guard. And scuttlebutt has Miami all over Mack, Wood, or Luigs in the draft. But what about backup offensive tackle?

Granted, our Front Office believes in playing it close to the vest, but do we not need a reliable backup offensive tackle with a track record? Or is Garner impressive enough?

This is an honest question; Garner is maybe the least discussed player on the roster.

I don't know if this is a question that can really be answered yet. The front office liked him enough to pick him up off waivers from the Jets and make him the backup RT last season. He was inactive for every game, but that is hardly surprising since there were guys like Ndukwe who could play either inside or out.

He has the size of a Tackle at 6-7, 320 pounds. He will be taken to camp and they will see what he has. He was a rookie last year and a 7th round pick, so it probably will take him some time. With that said, I doubt they enter the season with just Garner and Brandon Fryre as our backup tackles. They will probably spend a pick or two on the offensive line in the draft. They will obviously draft a guy to compete at the guard and center positions, but will likely take a guy for depth at the Tackle position. They may look to add a veteran tackles here soon once bargain shopping commences in the free agency period.

Garner may be a good option at backup tackle, but I hardly doubt Miami won't bring in anybody to compete with him.

I know nothing about Nate Garner, other than him being a perennial Pro Bowler on Madden 09 in the Franchise Mode.

The fact that he stuck around for all 16 games should tell us all we need to know about what the Trifecta thinks of him. Keep in mind, few reserves lasted the entire season on the roster.

One thing to keep in mind is that the majority of our OL depth was not here in training camp but claimed off of waivers throughout the season. This, combined with the fact that most of our OL claimed that they didn't progress under Maser, could mean that they may progress a lot more in TC.

Started 13 games at RT for Arkansas, blocking for Felix Jones and McFadden. The'll most likely pick up another 7th Rd project in April to compete.

They just need to develop a guy who can play RT at a decent level. Carey is essentially the back up LT and if 'both' of your starting Tackles go down, you've got trouble regardless.

If Garner or a late-round rookie aren't cutting it by preseason, they still might be able to pick up a respectable player off waivers before game 1.

Alex Boone should be a huge bargain in this years draft.

Boone has been arrested twice on alchohol related charges and the last time the cops had to taze him.

I don't mind the boozers, its the druggies that run the risk of huge suspensions.

Last year Boone was projected as a #1 pick at LT. This year he had a down year but the word is it may have had more to do with other players on the line than him.

He is now projected as 7th-FA.

This kid can play nad would be a steal anywhere on the 2nd day.

#1 pick at LT???? so, hes better than Jason Smith and Eugene Monroe???

if so, he would be the biggest steal ever in the 7th round. Im sure Parcells would love to pick him on day two, even though we have Long and Carey. but it sure doesnt help to develop him and turn him into a star 2-3 years down the road.

I think that by #1 pick, he meant a 1st Rounder. Many use the terminology of a #2 pick to mean a 2nd rounder or a #3 pick to mean a 3rd rounder. So by a #1 pick, he meant a 1st rounder, not the #1 "overall". If he meant #1 "overall" pick, he would have added "overall" with his statement. JFYI.

Last year walter football had Alex Boone rated 1-2. Late 1st or early 2nd round prospect if he had declared last year. He should have.

Now he has been arrested twice on alchohol related charges and had a down year at Ohio State and is rated 7-FA.
