National Championship: Ohio State vs. Florida

The pass interference call was a joke. Saw the replay just the other day on ESPN Classic. Highway robbery.

I have a blown up picture of the play in progress....

Gamble runs straight..the CB grabs his jersey (slows him down) then Chris goes up for the ball..

Defensive holding was likely the correct terminology..but make no mistake a foul was committed......the refs blew a few blatant calls that wouldve resulted in no OT to begin with, but Im sure nobody wants to say anything about that right:rolleyes:

I agree with you, foul was on the D, however I think the thing that kills the Cane Faithful is that the flag was somewhat late, and the fans and team were alrdy charging the field, you get what im saying?

Gee, there's a shocker. An Ohio St. fan thinks the penalty occurred. That's not predictable or anything.

I despise the Hurricanes, and I still think that it was a bogus call.

you guys talking about that damn fiesta bowl game in this thread? c'mon, lets move on.... florida will own osu and there'll be no excuses for this one.

I agree totally...it was late, it was a nick nack call, but it WAS a foul..the better team that night won.

I am not sure if a better team that night one. If you take that Miami team vs. OSU 10 times, i would say Miami wins it at least 8. It was a pretty big upset in my mind, and the mind of others but that is what is great about football, it is one game, no best of 7 series.

As for the BCS championship game, lets see if the gators can do what OSU did a couple of years ago. Seems kind of similar kind of game with OSU reversing roles as the favorite. hmmm

I don't know about that...... Miami had a flashy team, but Ohio State was a tough team with a great running game, great special teams, a great punters and kicker, and the best defense in the nation..... We had guys like AJ Hawk covering kicks on special teams.... the depth on that team was insane.

Florida isn't really like that this year.... they have a very good D, but they don't have anywhere near the ball control running game, punting, or kicking that Ohio State of 2002 did. Ohio State won more than a few games because of Mike Nugent..... Florida can't have any faith in thier kicker, who is one of the worst in D 1....... 30% Fg's is not how you win close games.....

While the "High Powered Team vs. the Underdog" is there, thats about where it ends with comparisons to 2002....Flroida really isn't like that team .

Florida has won alot of games with special teams, but they rely on mess-ups from the other team.... something Ohio State isn't really known for.

Flroida also has trouble covering kickoffs for some reason (strange since they make ST's plays alot)... which could lead to trouble considering Ted Ginn and Anthony Gonzolez can bring it back for 6 at any time.

Really? Thats news to me. I've watched every game this year. Our kick coverage team is solid.

Yea, all the Florida games I have seen(at least 5), both coverage units are really quite good.

Its not the best..... slightly worse than Ohio State... but considering your team has been pretty dependent on Special Teams to win some games I would think that the fundamentals of special teams.... i.e. Punting, Kciking Field Goals, and covering kicks..... would be excellent.

So, then you don't stand by your previous statement :hmmm:

I don't think our coverage has been very good this year..... and ours is better than yours.......

And like I said, with all the plays you make on ST's.... I would think you'ed be among the leagues best.

Perhaps I worded it wrong.... how about "Not as good as I'd have thought"

Now...what about the rest of that post....?

I'll be honest, I didn't follow OSU much in '02, so I won't compare the teams. I'll just stop at the situations being similar.

Our kick off coverage hasn't been a concern this year, at all to me. The only knock I could see on that would be the leg strenght of our kicker. He gets very few touchbacks, thus we impliment that high hanging kick that is usally received around the 15-20. The coverage on that kick has been just fine though.

I don't agree on "relying on other teams' mess-ups" in regards to our ST either. You just don't block that many kicks in a year with being able to force mistakes.

There's no comparison with Nugent and our kicker. Heitland is dreadful.

I do think you're underestimating our punt return ability also. Brandon Jacobs should have at least 3 returns for TD's this year. He's several called back and two were absolutely horrible calls. The Tennesse game was a pathetic phantom call, and another in the Auburn game.
