Honestly that 2010 draft was the draft that really hurts. Once we traded down, it wen't completely downhill.
Ireland was more concerned with getting his 2nd round pick that he lost for Brandon Marshall, over drafting a superstar player.
Round 1 you pass on 2 LEGIT needs/playmakers in Earl Thomas and Dez Bryant. Then you watch Dez fall into the 20's and you aren't savvy enough to trade back up to nab him? Nah his mom was a prostitute and his dad is a pimp.
So now you have a 2nd round pick. Big ol Gronk is on the board and what happens, you take Koa Misi. Once again, you pass on top potential for a guy whose ceiling you know will never lead him to be a great player.
So **** it, round 3 and UM fans know that is Jimmy Graham round. You've passed on Gresham, you've passed on Gronk . . . well we will make up for it here. Nah . . . we go John ****ing Jerry with the pick. The Saints take Graham in the rest is history. Parcells later comes out and says "If he were there in round 4 we would of taken him". Whatever dude.
Of course it continues because you take AJ Edds in round 4 with Geno Atkins being taken as the next pick. Maybe if you take a star player in round 1, you still can fill the DT role in round 4 instead of filling it in round 1 with another guy who you know is only going to be a "good" player at best in this league. Now I do understand we were running a 3-4 and maybe Geno doesn't fit that like he does a 4-3, but still, **** is ridiculous.
Round 5 we did hit on Reshad Jones, who has been a solid safety in this league. I guess even a squirrel eventually finds the nut. But imagine if we hit on Earl Thomas in round 1 and then come back with Jones in round 5.
2010 was just a mess and it was the moment in which you saw what Jeff Ireland was about and how unsuccessful he would be as Dolphins GM.
