I am discussing with my buddy on what we need to pick in the 1st rd. He thinks we try to get our hands on one the top RBs like Trey Mason or BPA at RB at our pick, I am leaning more towards stock piling the Oline and taking a decent RB to compete with Miller later in the draft.
What do you guys feel we should target earlier in the draft Oline or a stud RB? Lets assume we DONT get any players in FA for either of these postions and we use the draft strictly to fill these 2 positions.

Adrian Peterson couldn't run behind our O-line this season. Plus McKinnie, Incognito and Clabo are all free agents...I think Jerry may be as well...and we know Martin isn't coming back, no way that happens.

We should address at least two O-line positions in free agency...maybe LT and a guard position...Jon Amamuah, Zane Beadles, Geoff Schwartz and Wade Smith are all free agents and good fits for the ZBS. Most likely K.C. brings back Schwartz but they only have $8 million in cap space from what I heard. At LT Brandon Albert, Anthony Collins, Jared Veldheer and Roger Saffold should be available.

The other two spots will have to come from the draft. You'd be wasting a high draft pick on a RB if there's no one to block for him.

Need to draft BPA, you don't draft need.

Once you start drafting need you start reaching, once you start reaching you start having bad drafts, once you have bad drafts you are like the last decade of the Miami Dolphins.

Don't be like the last decade of the Miami Dolphins, get directv.

Exactly.....!

Its a good spot to pick o-line assuming other teams don't overvalue them which they probably will so some of the good impact players those other teams should have drafted will fall to us.

If we took Tre Mason with the 19th pick, I would turn off my TV and throw it out the window. Then, proceed to call Jeff Ireland and apologize for anything I ever said.

Need is a poor evaluator of talent as they say, however, unless there is an elite player for his position such as an Eric Ebron at TE, Darqueze Dennard at CB or some other player that may be the consensus #1 rated player for their position BPA at #19 will most likely be someone on the OL or DL. Drafting a RB at #19 when the position is so dependent on the O-line is like literally putting the cart before the horse.

No to running back at #19. I'd actually be surprised if any running backs come off the board in the first round, period. There are four or five guys (some great fits for the fins offense) who should be available on day two, if thats the route you want to go.

I'm probably in the minority but I actually don't think they need to draft a running back (its the offensive line that needs fixing).

Sign a guy like Anthony Collins and probably one other in free agency. Then you have more flexibility to find the best value with your 19th overall selection. The way this draft is stacking up, there is a fairly good chance the best player available at that selection also would fill a position of need. Maybe its a guard (Martin/Sankey), safety (Pryor), tight end (Ebron/Amaro), or a defensive tackle (Nix). With Matthews and Robinson long gone, it won't be an offensive tackle (which is why I'd attack that in free agency).

It's funny how people still think we can do without a real offensive line.... It doesn't matter what playmaker you draft you WILL NOT succeed without a line. You can't get the ball out of your hands to get it to him if you have a beast in your face as soon as you snap the ball.

Ideally you use free agency to plug your gaping holes (OL) before the draft so that you can draft the best player available. Jeff Ireland never quite learned this so he had to "part ways" with the Dolphins. The new GM should go after an OL or 10 before the draft. This team has too many holes to draft based on need only.

Or you ONLY draft OL in the draft and develop your guys from within with coaching.... and use FA to pick up cheap depth that your coaches can try to develop like championship teams do
