Why would the Fins resign Campers to such a big contract, let alone to be one of the highest paid assistants? With a new head coach coming in you would think he would want to hire his own. Saying this who would want to come here with the Defensive guy already in place? Unless they are looking for a puppet. I don't get it. Please explain. Thanks:confused:

Capers decided not to sign the contract yet. He is no longer under contract with Miami.

Im not sure as to why, but Dom Capers is one of, if not the best D- Coordinaters in the game, retaining him would only be beneficial to the team.

With the age on our defense, they didn't want to have a new HC come in and tear it apart and make them learn a new scheme. I'm sure JT & ZT appreciate that fact.

If I was an offensive minded OC being considered for the Dolphins HC spot, I'd be thrilled that I'm inheriting a very good DC and a top 5 defense. Let's me concentrate on overhauling the offense as quickly as possible.

I'm sure some won't like not being able to bring in their own defensive guy, but as another poster stated before, Dungy was brought in to Indy and basically told, "Don't mess with our offense." He already had half a great team on day one... just makes his job easier.

I think we are all asking about the same questions. If he signed it or not really isn't even an issue. The question is what the heck is going on? The writing on the walls says even those powers to be in Miami have no faith in who they will hire. fans on this board are nuts thinking hiring a top line D Oc and a top line OC and a questionable head Coach would ever work. These guys have HUGE egos and problems are ineviadable.

I herd a coment on the ESPN radio today, about Dallas and Parcells. Dallas won't let Parcells go because then they would be in the same boat Miami is in, "picking between a bunch of mediocre at best Head Coach prospects".

boy, the negative stuff seems to never stop for the Fins.

He is one of the best defensive minds in the league, evidenced by our number 4 ranking in defense this season, and JT's breakout as DPOY.

The Bucs basically did the same thing with Monte Kiffin.

Any prospective head man who would have a problem having Dom Capers as their defensive coordinator, is somebody we should bypass.

Whether or not Capers signed his extension is relevant, because our HC search has been primarily top heavy with guys on the offensive side of the ball. We lose Capers to anyone and we have to rethink things a bit.

Maybe that's why Mora is getting more play. Maybe Mora getting play is why Capers hasn't signed his offer. I agree with the "what's going on here" feeling... things are definitely heating up. This is starting to remind me of the pathetic way we handled our GM search before we promoted Spielman, but I will resist panicking until the dust has settled.

He is under contract with Miami until the early part of February.

this is correct - I think I remember reading he is under contract through the 1st or 2nd of February and then we have exclusive negotiating rights with him for two weeks beyond that date.

I also wonder why we did this...especially if we bring in a 33 year old head coach like B-Schottenheimer....I can't see Capers listening to a guy who is still wet behind the ears.

Miami's coach search is starting to look night amatuer night at the apollo. We're signing assistant coaches before we're hiring head coaches and figuring out how we're going to run our front office. Only the Dolphins could be this backwards!
