They Way the AFC East is looking:
Randy Moss and Wes Welker in New England already and rumors of them looking at adding a 3rd WR (Galloway visited) to give them a more potent passing game. Not to Mention they will be getting Brady Back. Add Taylor, Maroney, Morris and Faulk out of the backfield and Watson at TE and you have a high powered air attack.
Terrell Owens joins Lee Evans in Buffalo with James Hardy, Josh Reed and Roscoe Parrish battling for the #3 WR spot the Bills are looking like they may have a very good passing attack this year if Edwards lives up to his potential. Lynch and Fred Jackson can also catch the ball out of the backfield.
The Jets have Jericho Cotchery along with Brad Smith and Chansi Stucky but now rumor has it they will pursue Torry Holt. That would give them Holt, Cotchery and Either Smith, Stuckey or a Drafted WR as their #3 WR. They also have a very good pass catching TE in Dustin Keller and Leon Washington is lighting in a bottle out of the backfield. The big Question will be at QB with Kellen Clemens.
With all of that said I get to my point. The AFC East Rivals seem to be building their teams around the passing games. Does this help or hurt us. They are all cold weather teams so in bad conditions it could play to our advantage, however, in good weather it could spell disaster. Our weakness at this point in time is our CB position. I know they will address this in the draft but very rarely do Rookie CB's make an immediate impact. The Free Agent crop still has a few attractive names but at what price. Names like Leigh Bodden, Dre Bly, Chris McAlister, Eric Green and Deltha O'Neal are the biggest names remaining on the market. Me personally like Bodden because he is only 27. Next I would say McAlister or Bly. Of the lesser names with potential or special teams prowess are Justin Miller, Chris Carr, Karl Paymah, Ralph Brown, Travis Daniels, Jamar Fletcher, Reynaldo Hill, Daven Holly, Will James, Sam Madison, Patrick Surtain, RW McQuarters, Keiwan Ratliff and Donald Strickland. Out of these I would say my first choice would be Justin Miller because he has elite Return Abilities and excellent speed. He is raw in coverage however so it doesn't fill that need. Karl Paymah has the size but his technique has flaws and he gets beat often because of it. Reynaldo Hill and Daven Holly do tempt me. Hill was a very good CB before injuries and if he could regain that form we would have a very good find, he was a #1 CB with the Titans before he got hurt. Holly is young but may be better suited for zone schemes but he does have some ball skills. Will James has always intrigued me because of size but he didn't look very good last year so I question if injuries have ended his career. Surtain if healthy could be borderline with the first group but injury concerns and age knocked him into this group. At this point of his career I wonder if he isn't better off moving to FS. The rest don't get me real excited.
I don't see the draft as a real strong CB class as they ran a little slow at the CB. Jenkins will probably be gone by 25 as well as Butler and possible Davis. That leaves someone like Sean Smith as possibly the best available. I know there are a couple other CB's that may be worth the 25th pick too. I would love to see Vontae Davis slip to #25 and us take him. IMO he may be the best CB coming out this year.
To the moral of this post, We need CB's! Lets hope the Trifecta has a plan in place and execute it to perfection.
