what will happen next year
i think we will win 5-7 games. its hard to say 8 and not be convicted of homerism. so, we will pick-based on last years draft-between 4 and 15. now, next years draft-unlike this year-is all about the offensive tackles and defensive lineman. experts are pretty sure as many as 6 offensive tackles will go in the first round. and several defensive lineman-de and dt. fortunately, those are two of our primary needs.
primary needs: (these are also positions that go in round 1)
defensive tackle
defensive end
offensive tackle
quarterback-debatable
secondary needs: (ie. second round) best safeties are found in round two and good value can be found on linebackers in later rounds-crowder, odell thurman, darryl blackstock
secondary
linebacker
so, next year we are lucky that the draft is full of what we need.
in round one, players that will be available when we draft, i see us getting either:
qb:
Omar Jacobs*, Bowling Green-stud-threw for 4000 yds, 46 tds, ran for 300 (note: leinart will be gone by time we draft)
ot
D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Virginia
Eric Winston, Miami-Fla.
Jonathan Scott, Texas
Marcus McNeil, Auburn
Andrew Whitworth, LSU
Winston Justice, USC*
dt
Rodrique Wright, 6-5 320, Texas
Gabriel Watson, 6-3 350, Michigan -3-4 nose tackle
Haloti Ngata, 6-4 344, Oregon -3-4 nose tackle
Orien Harris, 6-4, 300, Miami
so, im not going to say exactly who we will get. but, im willing to bet it will be one of these 11 guys since they are going to be the top available when we draft and they fill big needs.
in the second round, we are still looking for defensive line, offensive line help depending on round 1. and perhaps secondary or linebacker.
players that will be available/slip to us
defensive tackle
LeKevin Smith, Nebraska 602 305
Johnny Jolley, Texas A&M 6-4 310
Gerald Anderson, Georgia 602 325
defensive end
Manase Hopoi, Washington
Loren Howard, Northwestern
Eric Henderson, Georgia Tech
offensive tackle
Jeremy Trueblood, Boston College
defensive back
Michael Huff, Texas
Jason Allen, Tennessee
linebacker
Manny Lawson, DE, North Carolina State –olb in 3-4
Abdul Hodge, Iowa
D'Qwell Jackson, Maryland
Omar Gaither, LB, Tennessee
hopefully, we wont need to draft a qb so we can get one of those huge offensive or defensive tackles. but if we do draft jacobs, i wouldnt mind that at all.
in the end, i see us addressing o-line or d-line in next years draft. here was just some of the options. and im holding by that statement that our first round pick will be one of those 11 guys.
