1. One more O-lineman. Center / RG/ RT. It appears that our interest is at center, which would be ideal. We could move Hadnot to center and go with a RG or RT (if RT, then Carey would move to RG). I thin Hadnot is a better OG than C and that a new C would really help.
2. Safety. We have 3 CB's that can be competitive - one more would be good. But, right now, a starting S who can give continuity and leadership to the secondary would be ideal. A good hitter would be best. This could be a rookie (like a Huff) but he has to be a smart, tough player. I'd also like us to try to bring Lance Schulters back. He makes plays.
3. WR. We need a #3 and #4. The #3 needs to have some speed/breakaway ability - he doesn't have to catch a lot of balls, but just give a threat and one/two big plays every game or so.
4. NT. We need one more guy who can be a force. Adams would have been ideal to alternate with Traylor. Or, it could be through the draft.
5. CB. You always need 5-6 CB's who can cover guys. We have 3 who will compete right now, but a fourth that could compete for a starting position is essential as two of the three main CB's are as yet unproven.
6. LB. Hodge is a versatile player but I don't think he can be everydown. I'd like to see at least another rookie who can compete here. However, we can compete & be successful with what we have right now - we did last year and we can again.
Whether via free agency or the draft, these are the principle areas to be addressed. There will be some debate between the order of need and contrary to what so many fans on this and other list desire - we CANNOT get a star at every position.
As long as we get a really good player at a couple of the above spots and then some serviceable guys at the other spots, we'll be okay. The Patriots followed this model to perfection. Role players, with 2-3 big play playmakers on either side of the ball, is the key.
