If CBA goes through before Free Agency starts, every team will be active.
Having the CBA delayed might work ok for us.
Hear me out.

If it gets delayed, only a small % of teams will have the money to spend in FA. We could make the necessary cuts to free up cap space for 1 big signing (Brees) without the CBA being done.

If the CBA gets done say in a week or so, it will give us the opportunity to make another big free agent signing, that still might be available, because of lack of activity in FA.
Maybe LeCharles Bentley

Just a thought (and a dream :) )

I think Miami will be active with only 1 "big" time player with or without a CBA extension.

My concern is how long they will take before trying to sign that player, pressumably Brees.

As far as I understand, if the CBA is delayed so will FA, the longer the negotiations last the longer teams like San Diego will have to reach a deal with their players (Brees). I think we can have some advantages if the CBA gets delayed, but for the most part their will be more harm done than good, especially down the long run.

Both sides have said that free agency will NOT be delayed...........and if a CBA isn't done by the deadline, don't expect it to get done at any point at all this year....for two reasons:

1) FA was the motivation to get it done by the current deadline, if that passes, there will be no urgency to get it done at any point before this time next year and

2) the NFLPA would not let the early signees get f'd over by agreeing to a CBA which is highly beneficial to still unsigned players, leaving the guys who already signed with awful deals.

We need to see the big picture. Fellas, this is bigger than simply landing Drew Brees. If this does not get done, the league could be on a direct path to the MLB salary structure.

And you know how much Wayne liked that system.

This is a scary bad situation for NFL and Dolphins fans.

Tagliabue said yesterday after the talks broke down, that the league would not delay free agency.

the 1 good thing about wayne is he does spend money...i don't think he knows **** about football...my case in point, he let jimmy talk him into letting wanny be coach and gm...if he knew anything about football, he would have never let wanny be the gm...but at least he brought saban in and he will spend money on the team...

They also scheduled an "emergency" owner's meeting for Thursday morning at 8 p.m. for one last try. And they WILL delay it by a day or two if neccessary.

I have absolutely no idea if the CBA breakdown will be good or bad for our team, but it will potentially doom the NFL. I honestly hope that it gets taken care of.

I think you are way off in your assumption. For one thing, Saban would not allow Huizenga to just have a fire-sale of his team.Saban runs the show, and didnt sign up for that. Secondly, i am assuming you are referring to the Marlins under Huizenga, which is also different. The marlins never draw, even last year when they were in the heat of the race. As an owner from a strictly business perspective, why would you even keep a high-priced team then if fans still won't come. You mine as well go wit the young guns. Miami, on the other hand, lives and dies with the fins, and so the 2 situations are not analagous, in my opinion.

we're 21 mil over the cap. without a cba, there will be no "big" FA signing for the dolphins at any position.

I'm sure that if the CBA doesn't get done then you will see a return of the late fees at Blockbuster.

Wayne can do whatever he wants. If he wants to say no to hiring coaches that make more than 50 G's, he can do that. If he wants to say no to spending more than 90 million when the league is uncapped, he can do that.

Its Wayne's money. Right now, he is not paying a dime towards player salaries. Right now, a few million hear or there on a coach is no big deal.

However, if the league becomes structured like MLB, the Miami Dolphins will not be a profitable as they are now. Hence, it will make good business sense to do a fire sale like he did with the Marlins.

History is the best indication as to what will happen in the future.

If the CBA does not get done, and we make it to an uncapped year, the NFL will forever be changed for the worse. Teams like Pittsburgh and Seattle will never see the Super Bowl again. You can add Indianapolis, Tampa Bay, Green Bay and so on and so forth to that list.

This must get done, and until it does, any free agent move or draft pick will only be a blip on the radar of importance with respect to the CBA.
