With the upcoming draft and the expectations with our first round pick, and subsequent disappoint, lets take a look back at the horrible selections we've made in the first round.

2014- J'Wuan James - Not bad ad no a bust yet.
2013 - Dion Jordan - bust
2012 - Ryan Tannehill - Best first round pick in a decade
2011 - Mike Pouncey - Over rated and a center in the first round. Seriously?
2010 - Jared Odrick - Miss his whole first year, biggest contribution so far is his seldom seen sack dance
2009 - Vontae Davis - Cancer w us but thriving with another team while we sit and wonder where our second corner will come from
2008 - Jake Long -Allpro for a few seasons, not resigned and our line is still lacking
2007 - Ted Ginn - Trash. better than having drafted Brady Quinn
2006 - Jason Allen - trash
2005 - Ronnie Brown - injury shortened prime
2004 - Vernon Carey - decent but short career
2001 - Jamar Fletcher - Trash, should have been drew.
1998 - John Avery - TRASH, should have been randy moss.
1997- Yatil Green - Trash. never played. Thanks Jimmy Johnson.

So out of the last 14 picks only 5 significantly contributed to the team, Long, Carey, Brown, Tannehill and Pouncey. Brown was often injured, Long left with in five years, Carey was short lived and had weight issues, Pouncey is a center and over valued, and the jury is still out on Tannehill. There's hope for James but looking at that pathetic list of 1st round "talent" are we surprised we suck so hard?

While you are correct in stating that our 1st round picks have been average at best, there are other rounds of the draft.

It really doesn't get better when you go later rounds except for Jimmy Johnson. Dude drafted HOF players with back to back picks in the second and third round. His offensive draft picks thought...horrible.

Recently, we've made some decent non first round picks, more specifically in Landry who I think is going to be solid but nothing spectacular over all.

The Yatil Green pick was a good pick at the time. The problem is nobody can predict injuries.

As bad as Ireland was, he made the best 1st round picks for the Dolphins in the past decade. Outside of Jordan who has an abject failure, all of his 1st rounders were solid contributors. Prior to that they were mostly huge busts, with the exception of Ronnie Brown (but we passed on Aaron Rodgers, doh!) and Carey (but we passed in Wilfork and traded a 2nd to move up ONE spot, doh!)

We've had some really abhorrent GMs around here since JJ.

Someone please push this dude off the ledge...

Considering this is a NEW front office, nothing that happened prior to 2014 matters. James was not a bust and wont be one, he was playing at a high level as a rookie and was even in talks for top RTs in the early weeks.

You would have drafted better? I see a lot of "Injuries prevented more"

I don't care, nobody drafts great year after year. DON'T mention Greenbay, A-A-Ron compensates for a whole lot, as does any star QB (look at Indy when Peyton left)

J'Wuan James - GOOD
Dion Jordan - Bust? Everyone seemed to love the pick when he was drafted, but now its the Dolphins fault?
Ryan Tannehill - GOOD
Mike Pouncey - GOOD at his natural position
Jared Odrick - GOOD
Vontae Davis - GOOD
Jake Long - ALLPRO
Ronnie Brown - GOOD
Vernon Carey - GOOD
Yatil Green - Was a good pick, maybe, hard to judge someone who didn't get a chance

Ted Ginn pick, btw, everyone and their mother wanted QUINN, heads up, Ted Ginn still contributed more than Quinn has in his NFL career

Don't forget the add in Ricky Williams in traded away first round picks.

I don't care to look at injuries to grade a draft, injuries happen, and the Dolphins have hit a bad streak of them. The talent is there, don't make excuses for injuries and "cancer." The team hasn't drafted poorly, they just haven't either been able to keep the talent or utilize it correctly. Other teams have done MUCH MUCH worse at drafting useable talent, and there is multiple people on that list that were more than just useable, but starting material.

The dolphins have lacked in the later rounds, that is what makes or breaks a team. Knocking the Fins for their post first round is most definitely warranted, but your first round draft analysis was just naïve...driven by the maddening fact that we haven't had a winning team in a decades time.

Ireland was actually very good at drafting in the later rounds. His Achilles heel was the 2nd and 3rd rounds. I think that's truly where great teams are built, in the first 3 rounds. You can't have total busts in those rounds, and unfortunately we have had multiple years of nothing coming out of those key rounds...

That's why the Landry pick was so huge. Getting 2 good players in the first 2 rounds was a great change of pace.

I don't agree with calling Jordan a bust yet. He has played two seasons and sparingly at that. He hasn't been a great player (or even worth the 3rd pick), but I think you judge a player after their rookie deal is done.

As far as Pouncey, come on man. He has been the best offensive lineman we have had the past couple of years.

^THIS, a million times over. Our post first round success rate over the last decade could easily be rated as an "F"

my least favorite was jason allen in 2006....not only was he bad but he barely saw the field. IMO, if you draft someone in the first round they have to be ready to play
