he's pretty good at this..he looks at everything and doesnt make rash decisions

Thanks Muck. Good read. I really thought our secondary basically just looked slow.Maybe when they can just react and not have to think first speed will come(that goes for offense as well).

Very true.

One thing I like is that he's not afraid to take an unpopular stance, but he doesn't go off the deep end and explains why he feels a certain way.

Matt Roth is one example. He's been calling that one like he's seen it. I got to see Roth in action for the first time Monday. And the first thing I noticed was his short arms and a lack of speed top speed. He looks fairly powerful. But if he's gonna make it, he's got a long ways to go. Adewale Ogunleye he isn't.

thanks muck for posting i think to many people are making a big deal over the first preseason game. come on guys let's be serious here we have plenty of time to get ready for the season we had a couple of stupid mental mistakes that can be corrected.

Good read... I agree with him that AJs comment is a little unsettling. I haven't made up my mind yet on who I'd rather see start, but what I'd like to hear from AJ is more along the lines of "this is what I can do, and this is what I need to work at" rather than talking about game management and generalizing about the answer. If he can't look of DBs it's the end of his career.

I'm actually not all that worried about the secondary - yet. I think if New England played a defensive strategy where teams knew exactly where their DBs were going to be all the time, they'd look terrible too. If our DBs are that terrible once the whole scheme is in place, then I'll worry.

Thanks Muck, that was a nice read and it really kept things in perspective. I'm looking forward to Saturday night when hopefully we will see some progress. It will be interesting to see if McKinney can hold his own.

They moved McKinney back to center and Hadnot to guard for this game.... I believe that Saban said something to the effect of "how we originally envisioned it" when speaking about it yesterday.

That saddens me, because I don't want him to envision it that way. I want him to envision it as Hadnot at center and Middleton at guard every week. :D

Seriously though, did you intereperate Saban as talking about this game or long term?? I think that's the way it has to be for right now until Middleton is in shape and acclimated to the system.

I think he means it was part of the rotation plan. See AJ/Gus and Daniels/Howard for examples :D

Overall I was a little disappointed. At one point I was thinking, "If I imagine for a second that Dave Wannstedt and Tony Wise are on the sidelines, this looks exactly like last season." And it did. The line couldn't protect or run block. There was no running game. The defense couldn't stop the run. The Bears passed basically at will. There was little or no pass rush. All that was missing was an interception returned for a touchdown -- and the Dolphins did get one for their side.

tou know what bothers me about this comment.... this guy is a Dolphins insider... he should have payed attention to nick saban when he said our non existant gameplan for this game was going to be Vanilla..... How is it that we have all these people saying " oh, it look just like tony wise and Wanny" C"MON PEOPLE..... listen!!!!

I agree that AJs answer is disturbing.

He really did not address the question about looking off receivers and throwing with touch. As far as I have seen he has not improved in that area.

I thought Gus did a terrific job of looking off the receivers particularly on one of the TD throws where he turned his back to the area he was going to throw to.I also liked the way he stepped out of the pressure when rushed or blitzed.

Clearly Gus has the lead at this stage.
