As far as the new college rules this year I like some hate others.
Pro - Time starts on the ball being set for a first down.
This speeds them game up and this previous rule was the main reason for the long game times.
Undecided - Time starting on the kick off.
This isn't really much of a factor in game time. It is nice late in the game to see the clock not ticking on the kick but for this rule I could really care less either way.
Con - Clock starting on change of postion when ball is set for play.
I hate this. I hate that when a team doesn't even have to run a play to run out the clock late. I hate that late in the game or actually any time that after the kick/change of possesion that the clock runs. It seems wrong and I hope that next year this part of the rule is changed.
Over all I think the new clock rules are ok. The biggest impact is the first down rule. That rule in itself speeds up every game and if they changed the kick and change of position rule the goal of speeding up games would still work. I hate the change of posession rule and hope it is changed. It doesn't come into effect as much as the first down one. Keep the first down rule, It was what was slowing down games. Clock still stops to move chains and gives you some extra time to get set. The kick-off one is really a non factor in most games and if you need an extra 5 seconds to win you might need to play harder in the actual game. I just really hate the start of the clock on change of posession. I just seems wrong.
