anyone with an idea who we go after, this is undoubtedly a top-5 signing of the offseason. saban needs a guy to be his scott pioli. The TB guy got promoted, so he's out, anyone with some insight?

I'm on the phone with Saban now. I'm debating whether or not to take the job. :chuckle:

If you dont...make sure you tell him to give me a call.

:D

nah, i dont think he can do it alone. you look at all the guys who have done it alone..... holmgren in seattle shanahan pot elway/davis.. it doesn't work when one guy is running the ship i dont think.. saban has the final decision but he needs his scouts and his quality right hand men.

Don't forget about the guy we already have, Scott O'Brien! Saban might envision him as the team's version of Pioli.

It's in my first post. Pay attention people this is big news.

Just make sure it's a young guy with a hint of brilliance. Hard workers are garbage in this era. That was always my problem with Spielman. You could listen to him speak one time and understand he was like his brother as a LB, a dedicated overachiever and nothing more. That simply doesn't cut it among NFL coaches or personnel guys anymore. You need special ability, not 18 hour days looking at every play A.J. Feeley ever ran for the Eagles.

The salary cap and free agency have managed what the league wanted, magneted almost everyone toward the middle. You're never stuck high or low with no escape room for years. But you also can't get beyond that and over the top without rare ability. That's why I don't think it's so amazing that the Pats can maintain a level for so long or the Eagles can manage 4 straight NFC title games. They have had top notch trump card head coaches and assistants, and personnel departments that wisely accumulate draft picks. The hard working foes flounder below them. From what I've seen of Nick Saban, he does possess enough special insight. I'm confident he won't settle for a GM without similar. Just don't ask me for a name. If I could listen to the top 10 candidates for 15 minutes each, no problem isolating someone. Doubt they'll let me.

Get rid of this BUM! First thing he does is go blabbing about it to the public. We can't have that kind of irresponsible, bone-headed guy working as personnel director.

Whoever it turns out to be, we can all breathe a sigh of relief. No more trading away all of our future day 1 picks to acquire questionable talent or move up one spot to take inferior talent. The second I saw :monkeyr: Spielman :monkeyl: trade our 4th to pass up Wilfork and take Carey, I knew he had no long-term vision. That move will come back to haunt us if it hasn't already. Goodbye Mr. Spielman, and may you resurface in the front office of another AFC east team. The boneheaded, inbred decision making era of Wannstedt/Spielman is officially over. Drinks for everyone at the bar tonight on me! :beerbang: :drinkers: :happydrin

"Coach Saban has asked me to stay on next year as a consultant in the
personnel department.
I will only work 2 or 3 days per week, but I will be able to help evaluate
some pro players. " April 12, 2005
