FIFA changed their formula right before the WC started (obviously the old formula was crap), and it looks like they've done a much better job. Remember, they used the same data (plus what happened in the WC) with a different formula (so this isn't JUST the influence of the results in the WC).
Some of you remember how insistent I was on producing a formula to eliminate personal bias, and though the process of creating a good one isn't easy, there's improvement being made.
Of course, there are still issues one can have with where some teams are ranked in this new ranking, but the key is these rankings are a full leap better than the previous ones.
Maybe in a decade or so, whatever formula is used will serve as a good basis for predicting which team is most likely to win a match in a neutral venue.
