FIFA changed their formula right before the WC started (obviously the old formula was crap), and it looks like they've done a much better job. Remember, they used the same data (plus what happened in the WC) with a different formula (so this isn't JUST the influence of the results in the WC).

Some of you remember how insistent I was on producing a formula to eliminate personal bias, and though the process of creating a good one isn't easy, there's improvement being made.

Of course, there are still issues one can have with where some teams are ranked in this new ranking, but the key is these rankings are a full leap better than the previous ones.

Maybe in a decade or so, whatever formula is used will serve as a good basis for predicting which team is most likely to win a match in a neutral venue.

Nigeria and Cameroon still gettin much luv, matter fact several African teams gettin good ranks . . hard fall for Mexico tho, damn, I mean they weren't that far from PK's wit Argentina, a team who probably would have won the whole thing if there Keeper didn't get injured vs. Germany. Pretty much a sad story for Concacaf and Asia tho . . the US is about where they need to be, hey we tied Italy with a man down the whole second half, hell probably should have won if they don't call interference on McbRide. Well when we get Klinsman, I think we will have a coach that can take us to that next level.

What is different in this one?

If you mean different as in where each team is ranked, of course you see US and Mexico not way up in the stratosphere. If you mean what is different regarding ranking methodology, lots of small things are different, but this site gives a brief synopsis:

Oh, and check out the PDF file at the bottom of that page:

In the only one, Germany was ranked 29th or something and USA was top 5 weren't they?

All that really matters is number 1 though.

All thtA matter is who won the World Cup..ITALIA!!!:D

We moved up 18 places to 41 :D Highest for 6 years :D :D

Still gonna get hosed in the UEFA 2008 qualifiers though :(

Much better system and your never gonna make everyone happy. It's like the NFL power rankings except in the NFL everyone plays each other and in FIFA the CONCACAF teams just play each other usually

Canada up 29 spots:eek:

Ahead of Angola and Korea:eek:

First Italy is in a World Cup group with the #2 and #5 ranked team in the World.

Now for Euro they have

France #4 in the world:confused:
Ukraine #15 in the world:confused:

Italy could be defending World champs and not even make it to Euro 2008

 Guatemala is 53 and Canada 54

I'm not certain, but I'm pretty sure Euro has a points system that makes it pretty fair, but it can be difficult for some teams. But if Italy don't make it through, they probably don't deserve to be there. France is notable in their qualifying pool, but the other teams are from countries I had no idea existed.

This link explains in brief the process (based on results of course) that determines the EURO groups:
