Assuming Linehan takes Baggett with him to St. Louis (very strong possibility), I think Garrett is our new OC. What do people here know about him, and what kind of offense do you think he'd run? How, if at all, would he be different from Linehan?

I have no idea why you think Jason Garrett would be qualified to be an offensive coordinator. You keep promoting him, but he's only like 5 years out of playing in the league.

He's been a QB coach for one year. I would rather someone from the outside over Garrett.

Yes!! I've been saying this for the last few days. Saban likes Garrett and I've read a lot about him being considered as a great HC one day. John Madden even said that during a game once.

I'm not necessarily promoting him -- I just think he'll be the guy.

Exactly, that is like saying you should be the OC. Give me a break. Are you his brother or something?

Why is people wanting Garrett to be our OC? He has only ONE year of coaching experience and he isn't ready for that kind of role. He would struggle too much and our offense would be just like 2004 offense. We either hurry up and promote Baggett to be our OC, or we go out and bring in a really smart game planning coach in.

I do like the idea of a QB being the OC though. I think offenses run better when OCs can more easily put themselves in the shoes of the QB.

Yeah but in that year he became somewhat of Scott Linehan's boy...and definitely served as Scott's eyes and ears in the booth after Scott moved back down to the sidelines. He knows and has the playbook, and he's regarded as somewhat of a coaching prodigy. The guy was kicked around the league between teams as a veteran third string quarterback in no small part because of how smart he was and how he could even help out with the coaching.

He may deserve a chance. But, I think Derek Dooley might have something to say about it...Dooley could be in line for the job too and he's been with Saban longer.

Josh McDaniels and Brian Daboll (QB and WR coach in NE) both cut their teeth with Coach Saban at Mich St., but I believe both are under contract and unlikely to be made available to either the Fins or Jets. Maybe Jeff Davidson, who was expected to join Mangini in New York, could be had for the right price. He has no link to Saban directly, however.

Didnt Gary Kubiak become a Coordinator shortly after retiring as backup QB for the Broncos?

Perhabs, but not right now

Ya, but we all know the true OC for the Broncos is Shanahan. In the Dolphins case, Saban's expertise is on defense.
