New Snippet on Lance Schulters!!

I just don't see how we can be excited for a guy whose put up 0 INT's in half his seasons whose coming off nearly a year without playing.

I'm excited about the potential he brings to the table. He's proven that he's capable of putting up pro-bowl caliber numbers in the past. True, you cant ignore the fact that he's had a couple off years in his career but its not like we are offering him a huge contract (at least we havent been lead to believe this). The risk is minimal, and the potential is high. And besides, Saban is known for getting players to play beyond their potential, lets all hope thats the case if we sign Schulters.

Schulters is a proven playmaker. As recently as 2002, he posted six interceptions. He has gone 22 straight games without an interception but is still regarded as a top-flight safety, assuming he has recovered from his '04 foot injury. He has two seasons with 6 interceptions and has 15 in 76 starts. He also has 5 1/2 career sacks.

Another thing to note is that despite the fact that he had no INT's in 2003 in 16 starts...he did have a career high 8 passes defensed...which indicates that he is always around the ball.

I have to ask these questions. Why has everybody else backoff this guy? That kinda worries me a little. Do these other teams know something we don't? Why did these others teams express so much interest then backoff?


An ESPN report says the Falcons are not as “interested†as some observers think. Some think the Falcons would not interview Schulters even if the circumstances were different. Dallas, St. Louis and Detroit are also favorable toward signing the safety, but like Atlanta, none of them have met with Schulters.

It now appears, however, that Miami is close to signing (Lance) Schulters; not only have the Dolphins met with Schulters, but reports at this time indicate that the Falcons are not as concentrated on him as they were earlier in the year.

I don't care about INTs. I want my safety to hit, tackle and defend. An INT from a safety is usually due to a bad throw or bad route, just icing on the cake.
