New Times trashes Dolphins logo

I just read the New Times article trashing the Dolphins logo.

Quite frankly I find it insulting to an orgination that has been tops in a very competitive field.

"The Miami Dolphins logo has remained more or less unchanged for the past 40 years -- an adorable, smiling sea mammal arching over unseen waves while sporting a bulbous football helmet atop its head. As battle flags go, it doesn't exactly strike fear in the heart. In fact it is downright silly, and has been for decades. It is the most idiotic insignia in the entire National Football League."

Most idiotic in the league? Far from it. We are the Miami Dolphins hence the sea mammal on the helmet.

A battle flag to strike fear in the heart?
Would he rather a Rambo Dolphin with a camo headband wearing vests of bullets and holding an M-16?

How bout the Cardinals, Browns, Packers, Jets, 49ers, Seahawks, Bills, just to name a few..... are those creatures that strike fear into the heart? I think not.

This paper is full of Jagoffs and this subject is a prime example their idiocy. As I said in another thread these guys would be happy with an acid induced flying dolphin with Dragon Talons hanging off of it.

These guys should stick to other things besides sports.
Funny the first thing about FL. sports they write about is to trash the history of a top class franchise.

My entry to them will be sent with the current logo and a request for them to get bent.

I agree. That's why I think these folks wanting to change the logo are a bunch of tards.

What a joke. Here is the Dolphins name and meaning from the miamidolphins.com website:

DOLPHINS NAME

Mariners, Marauders, Mustangs, Missiles, Moons, Sharks, Suns none of those other names suggested to the American Football League expansion franchise in 1965 could raise a fin to the runaway winner.

"Dolphins" was submitted by 622 entrants in a contest which attracted 19,843 entries and more than a thousand different names. The dozen finalists were delivered to a seven-member screening committee of local media.

The bottlenose dolphin, an intelligent creature with an irresistible built-in grin, has inspired wonder for centuries. Plutarch observed 1,900 years ago that the dolphin "is the only creature who loves man for his own sake." Every trainer will have a tale of the dolphin's cleverness and ingenuity, and scientists are fascinated by a dolphin's natural equipment which far surpasses the range of Navy sonar equipment.

"The dolphin is one of the fastest and smartest creatures of the sea," Joe Robbie said in announcing the team name on October 8, 1965. "Dolphins can attack and kill a shark or a whale. Sailors say bad luck will come to anyone who harms one of them."

Mrs. Robert Swanson of West Miami won two lifetime passes to Dolphin games with her nickname entry. The tiebreaker was picking the winner and score of the 1965 game between the University of Miami and Notre Dame. It ended in a scoreless tie.

....What a waste of time to print something so pointless?? The same can be said for many pro sports teams....Moron's:shakeno:

I like our new logo, but I enjoy working on it to see what different ideas would look like. I personally would like to stay with our current logo. I really like it.

Actually, the Packers logo is very good. A simple football shaped initial of the area that looks very traditional in a franchise very high on tradition. That said, you are right about everything else you said. These people are idiots if they can't find anything else to write about and any better way to write it.

Personally I think that's putting it nicely.
These guys have never paid attention to Pro sports.
They are a political/arts based paper. Obviously having a hard time tackling real issues.

Leave the logo alone.....tradition=class

Is news that slow they actually break down our mascot?? On another note dont dolphins kill sharks?? so yea!!

I did'nt mean to rip any of those teams.
Just bringing up the point that the Packers name and logo are not going to strike fear in anybody. It's their history and reputation that will. The name fits the history of Green Bay which is why they chose it. Just like the Dolphin along with the Aqua and orange colors reflect the tropical atmoshphere of S. FL. making both a fitting name, logo and color scheme.
