You always hear the anouncers talk about how the Fins are only running out of the wild cat. Well, its working great so don't fix something that is not broken. But when Monday night rolls around and if Ryan's defence stops the cat like last year, I am expecting to see some new formations that include the pass. When Pat was in ther a few times, it showed us a receiver can get open down the field. I hope we catch them off gaurd and pound them into the ground!! I want that good feeling again that I had against Buffalo but against the jets, it will be great! :hump:

I have feeling just the opposite will happen, I am looking for something Wild and Exotic to come from the Defensive Side of the Ball, we have a very creative Coaching staff, look for something VERY DIFFERENT on the Defensive side of the ball this week.

It should be noted that the 2008 Wildcat and 2009 Wildcat are completely different.

The 2008 Wildcat had a QB & WRs on the field. Let's call that the "Throwing Wildcat".

The 2009 Wildcat removes all QBs & WRs, and replaces them with big maulers, so that 270 lb guys like Joey Haynos are squashing & wearing down 190 lb DBs. Let's call that the "Mauling Wildcat".

Last year, Rex Ryan may have figured out how to stop the "Throwing Wildcat".

But so far, NOBODY has stopped the "Mauling Wildcat".

Which is surprising, because the obvious way to stop the "Mauling Wildcat" is to remove all the DBs, and replace them with LBs and DEs. But for some reason, opposing teams haven't done that yet.

That's because it would give us a large mis-match with R.Williams running a route against a LB'er.

If Sparano sees that the Jets' defense is completely exhausted, he might try it. But I don't think he will try anything too fancy in the first 3 quarters. That Jets' defense has to be taken seriously. We can't make mistakes running the wildcat and turning the ball over or losing a lot of yards.

I'll be happy with a ton of blitz packages that work. I hate seeing a QB sitting back there with a ton of time to wait for someone to get open. Someone mentioned in another thread of having Porter, Taylor and Wake blitzing so am looking forward to seeing how that turns out. I really like Wake's techhnique in wrapping up the QB.

Sure, but who's going to throw to him out of the "Mauling Wildcat"?

Ronnie Brown's throwing arm doesn't scare anyone.

I feel that we should get someone like Michael Robinson for the "Mauling Wildcat".

- He's a 225 lb RB/FB for the SF 49ers, so we know he can block & run.

- He played QB in college (Penn State), so we know he can throw.

- Guys like him don't cost much in the NFL, so we wouldn't have to give up much to get him.

In the "Mauling Wildcat", remove 205 lb Patrick Cobbs (the smallest guy in that formation), and insert 225 lb RB/FB Michael Robinson. This would add more blocking power for the "Mauling Wildcat", and add a passing threat.

Hope the running works on them. It would be nice to ride this wave as long as we can and geep our options for a rainy day.

What options do we have with the current wild cat package miami is using? Does anyone know why teams arehaving trouble with this setup and how come nobody else is having the success we are having? Are we just better suited for this style?

yeah...stopping the opposing offense

You did see Ronnie throw last year didn't you, it was pretty damn good. No one is asking him to be Manning or Brady, a mis-match against a LB'er would allow Ronnie to just get it to be catchable.

We have all the players we need to run this package, we already "wasted" a draft pick on improving it and now you want to trade for another specialist even when L.Polite has shown to be very capable in handling blocking and carries. You can't tell me M.Robinson has the talent of a Cobbs only some more weight, why would you think the best thing is to take as much talent off the field to run a package. If you want more weight then bring in Solai and the back up O-lineman and let's go "Hefty-Cat" down their throats!

Your really taking the Wildcat, wildpat, mauling wildcat, or whatever else you want to come up with alittle excessive aren't you. The wild thing won't win us this game, the field position and turnover battle will decide the eventual winner of a close game we're gonna see Monday night.

Does anyone know why teams arehaving trouble with this setup

As I mentioned above, opposing teams seem to be defending the 2008 Wildcat, and keeping their DBs on the field. This is a huge mismatch, since our 2009 "Mauling Wildcat" has so much beef on the field.

how come nobody else is having the success we are having?

We have QB coach David Lee, who ran the Wildcat at Arkansas. We also have 2 of the best RBs in the NFL.

Are we just better suited for this style?

We have a fantastic running game, and a weak passing game. So we're one of the few teams willing to take the QB off the field, and do pure running plays.

Ginn can throw the ball. She was a damn good QB in High schrool. But...she would be so damned scared she would probably pee on herself before she could throw the ball. So you are right..who to throw?

I remember Ronnie Brown completed a 20 yd pass. But I also remember Ronnie Brown completely whiffing on a 5 yd pass.

Either way, when we wanted to throw the ball downfield, we flipped it to Chad Pennington.
