Following the signing of Jake Long, Vernon Carey will be the Dolphins' starting right tackle in 2008.

Carey should like this. Right tackle is his best position and he's in a contract year. Miami may also explore signing him long-term during the season.

I really hope we get Carey locked up, Man Im gonna enjoy watching our line Gel.

so Jake Long IS gonna be the LT. many thought RT, so i guess BP thinks he has the tools to be a dominant LT after all!

i still wouldnt rule out a guy like Gosder Cherilus being picked at #32 and being moved to OG. unless Drew Mormino wow'ed the coaches, he may not start.

Im surprised no one has thought of the Idea of having Carey slide over to LG. Carey can play G, but his favorite position is RT and I think RT is where he goes. I think we draft a G to battle Mormino. Our positions of need are G,LB,CB,QB,TE,NT,DE,OLB

Every position (including RB) is a need for the Phins. Ronnie should still be the starter, but a guy we can depend on to be the #2 is needed somewhere also.

Hopefully late on the second day, they either pick one, or identify a good looking UDFA to groom on the P-squad.

Basically, I'm saying this team needs talent everywhere. Heck, if Mormino starts, we also need a backup C, and I don't think Darilek fills that void.

we really need to resign big Vern the guy has got better every year in the league.
he is a stud at RT and i think he is a pretty solid LT.. dont listen to espn who seems to diss this guy every chance they get.. with Long Smiley Carrey and Samson i think we are lookin for for awhile

i hope he gets signed to a Long Contract but i dont know if there will happen

It will happen. Long wasn't just brought here to be the LT. He was brought here to let Carey dominate on the right side.

In a few years we may have the undisputed best Tackle tandem in the league.

Can't let Carey go now. We'll never replace his production at the RT spot, and it would go against the whole philosophy of building through the draft.

Draft well and keep those players. We'll do just that.

Plenty of people have talked about moving Carey to guard. I had thought it was a good idea a while ago, but it's probably better to just draft a guard. It would be hard to replace Carey's quality at tackle.

I'd like to keep Carey at RT. Quality tackles are harder to find than G's. Smiley came at a reasonable price and we can always just draft a G in the 3rd or 4th round. Also June first cuts we can find a stop gap guard too.

Keep Carey at RT . . . kid can play a solid RT . . . and draft a guard and have him compete w/ Mormino . . . that definitely sounds like the best plan. We also will be drafting an OL late I believe . . . plus UDFA . . . plus we have guys like Esera and Wilson at Tackle . . . so with this Jake Long signing . . . we are looking better.

QB is not a need. Neither is NT. LB and DE are not immediate needs. Some of you forget that we have young players who still have upside (Solai, Moses, Wright). Some of you think you can plug in a name from rds 2-4 and they would upgrade some of these positions. I don't agree.

:rolleyes2:

Parcells and his cohorts are known for building mammoth offensive lines, so Carey fits perfectly into the longterm plan for this team.

Expect him to be re-signed sooner than later.
