News Times Logo Contest..

As is noticeable on the helmet in your sig, the logo has undergone many changes in 40 years.. At first the abstract painting looking Dolphin was offcentered on the sunburst.. Then the abstract painting Dolphin became centered... then the abstract painting dolphin became a cartoon dolphin in the mid 90s.. Im sorry, but the argument doesnt work.. It has changed significantly since its inception.. including a color change to darker shades.

Uniform colors: Aqua Green and Orange (Dark Blue was added to the logo and uniforms as an accent color in the late 90's). The Dolphins primarily wear white jerseys at home, except for night contests when they dress in aqua jerseys. Since the 2003 season, the Dolphins have worn an alternate orange jersey once each season for nationally televised contests. They are 2-0 in games wearing the alternate jersey.
Helmet design: A dolphin wearing a football helmet, jumping in front of an orange sunburst

The only change was when Jimmy Johnson centered it, inserted blue, and changed the face to a meaner looking Dolphin. A change that I was opposed to. If you tweak it too many times, it's gonna start looking like a Dude, not a Dolphin.

They didnt just change the face, they changed the entire Dolphin and Sunburst..

And the colors have changed.. It was a light aqua back in the old days.. Now its almost green..

Oooooh kay. I get you. I guess that makes sense. That's why I started following the University of Michigan, although it didn't in the final analysis make me a fan.

I became a fan of the Dolphins at age 6 because that was Miami's football team, and I was living in Homestead! :)

See this is how it happened to me. I was seeing that logo, and the colors, and I thought they were cool. That left and imprint in my mind. But when I went to my first game in 1970, The Logo, the Colors, and being here all played into it. I was hooked.

The Color has always been the same. It was changed once. By none other than Jimmy Johnson.

Thats what Im saying though.. The colors have changed.. They arent the same as the traditional 70s era..

They darkened the aqua and added navy.. The "tradition" everyone speaks of here is already in the past.. We dont have the same uniforms and logo that we had in the 70s/80s..

Nothing says 'Miami' like a banjo-driven upidy song.

It's embarassing. It's a buzzkill. It needs to be tossed out.

Yeah that song makes Miami seem like a city filled with rednecks, But its the opposite its a city of mainly mixed cultures, mainly Cuban. If they were to replace it with a Latin song in this age of political correctness alot of Hispanics will be pissed. Its bad enough when busineses target hispanics they always sterotype them as bieng festive, in commercials.

Now as for the helmet I dont think it should be changed. It is tradition and it looks cool 2 me. Changing it is an intresting idea and you guys have done good job with your ideas.

I like this one! Maybe change the helmet on the dolphin to a white helmet.

It should have never been touched. That's what I'm saying.

Your nit picking it because you would further like to change it. The logo is not that different than what it started out to be.

At least it still slightly resembles the name, and that's a Dolphin.

This logo that most here seem to be bashing is pretty cool in my opinion. If the New Times wants to compare how changes made the Patsies and Bucs do then ask them if their logos made them go undefeated!!! Our logo has nothing to do with intimidation. Dolphins are known to be very intelligent and will kill sharks if provoked. That is enough for me. I am old-school. I like the subtle change they made it 1997. Besides, I would have to spend about a trillion dollars replacing all of my stuff. Not getting rid of only adding to.

But there are upgrades out there that could still do it justice while "updating" it.. Yet everyone seems to be hellbent against it..

The fact of the matter is that our current logo is the only one which no longer fits in with the rest of the league.. Its more akin to an NBA logo than a modern NFL logo.. I personally think that taking the helmet off the Dolphin would fix that problem.. Dolphins have the only animal logo that anthromorphises the animal and puts football equipment on it..

I don't know...

That look spretty dated to me, and even though the same overall concept is there in our current logo, it is quite a bit different. I don't see how a similar update to the one done in 1997 would be that big of a deal.

I don't think the problem is that the Dolphin has football equipment... because it is a cool concept. The problem is that it is a completely realistic Dolphin just looking dopey with a helmet strapped to its head, like a poodle in a santa hat on a christmas card. Either it needs to go ALL animal... or become more humanesque like the Finheaven logo, and then the football equipment wouldn't seem out of place.

i like the one with the D but see if u can make the D bigger and have the dolphin jumping through it and the facemask aqua then i think it would be cool
