I don't care how good of a coach you are, you AREN'T going to move the chains on long third downs by dumping off the past 1 or 2 yards and hoping for a long run.

Throw the ball! Throw it beyond the marker! You can't get the 1st unless you're beyond it!

What are they doing out there? I've seen atleast 3 short dump passes on third and long today.
 
i see bigger concerns...

its hard to throw deep on a deep zone...i would like to see more slants, and drags though, but gus isnt getting the time he needs...sam adams' fat self is disrupting things badly...more importantly....WHATSA UP WITH THE DEFENSE!!!!????!!!!!??????
 
That last 3rd down play was a hot read because Gus picked up the corner blitz and knew he was not going to have enough time to get the ball downfield.
 
It's hard to throw deep when you have to get rid of the ball in 1/2 a second or get sacked.

Sorry, I'm not fully reading all the other posts, I'm looking back and forth from the game to the computer, then making my comments. My bad.
 
I think a newsflash to Saban should be that you can't win with double digit penalties. Penalties are a reflection of coaching, so if Saban can't discipline his players to remain in control he needs to hire an assistant that can.
