Ever since the clock struck midnight on the
Dolphins' fairy-tale season, many fans have been eagerly anticipating the next meaningful midnight strike, which finally arrives tonight. That's when
NFL teams are allowed to start shopping for free agents.
Those free agents are far more expensive than slippers, even the $1.6 million ruby ones at Harrods in London. Plus, they rarely fit as well as what the teams already have on their feet. That makes this the most overrated of all NFL events, and one that correlates little with the far more significant event that the NFL holds in every early February. Simply, franchises that participate actively in the free-agent period rarely participate in Super Bowls.
