Active Roster
Every year there are coaches that have good rosters, but under acheive. Every year you can look to a few coaches and say, they may be on their way out the door if they fail. This season will see less casualties IMO due to all the coaches in the NFL.
Here is a list I have compiled of coaches that should be concerned for their jobs if they don't get it done this year.
Brian Billick (Baltimore)- Billick may have gone through injuries, players facing criminal charges and poor quarterback play, but I think this is his last shot to get it done with the Ravens. People are making a big deal out of the Ravens off-season and another losing season could send coach out the door.
Jeff Fisher (Tennesee)- McNair is out, insert Volek. Not always a good transistion but do you give him time to see if Vince Young turns out. The Titans have certainly fallen off the map lately and may need a change at the top to right the ship.
Jim Mora Jr. (Atlanta)- Has always seemed like a solid coach, but how long are they giving him to get Michael Vick going? While I place much of the blame on Vick, some may direct it towards Mora. It seems like so long again when the Falcons were playing for the NFC title in 2004. Nonetheless, the Falcons vastly underachieved in 2005 and a repeat performance in 2006, could be the end of his tenure in Hotlanta.
Mike Nolan (San Fransisco)- You can't expect much out of a man who is given no weapons on offense, and at best, an average defense. But Nolan wasn't able to push Alex Smith along in his devolpement in his rookie season and could be looking at a potential first overall bust. I don't think he deserves the door if the 49ers compile another 3 win season, but the coaching business is a cruel one.
There could be others but like I mentioned earlier, there are a lot of new coaches who will get at least 2 years.
My suprise picks could be Tony Dungy, who has failed miserablly with his team in the playoffs in recent years. Marty Schotenheimer has never seen eye to eye with G.M, A.J Smith, and it hurts when your team was considerd the best team to ever miss the playoffs. With Rivers in and Brees out, could his tenure in sunny San Diego be over? I know it sounds crazy, but if the Cowboys miss the playoffs in 2006, does Bill Parcells deserve to be fired? It's hard to dismiss a coach with his history but they really need to make some noise this year.
Well, that's all I have for now, if you'd like to add any to the list please do so. Thanks guys.
