5. Dolphins: Whether you want the Fins gig basically boils down to whether you buy into Ryan Tannehill as a franchise quarterback. There's significant investment in him as the future of the franchise. Regardless of whether the team can get out of the contract, it's spent a ton of resources, financial and otherwise, on securing his future and putting pieces around him.
The big, BIG downside of Miami is no one survives coaching jobs in the AFC East. Bill Belichick's first season with the Patriots was in 2000 and since then, including interim coaches, the Jets have employed five coaches (Al Groh, Herm Edwards, Eric Mangini, Rex Ryan and Todd Bowles), the Bills have employed eight coaches (Wade Phillips, Gregg Williams, Mike Mularkey, Dick Jauron, Perry Fewell, Chan Gailey, Doug Marrone and Rex Ryan) and the Dolphins have employed eight (Dave Wannstedt, Jim Bates, Nick Saban, Cam Cameron, Tony Sparano, Todd Bowles, Joe Philbin and Dan Campbell). It's a freaking graveyard out there.
The good news is you've got Ndamukong Suh, the bad news is you're hamstrung by Suh's contract. Owner Stephen Ross has shown some serious patience previously though, giving Philbin more time than he deserved, even if Philbin got canned four games into 2015.

We are barely ahead of the Browns.

With our owner we are lucky to be ahead of anybody

No worse than the Titans/Jags/Bucs/Browns and no better than the Giants IMO.

I think the Dolphins job is as coveted a job as any out there for this reason:

Win one single game above .500, give us one playoff berth within four years, and pull players off of the field who you and the rest of the world can see aren't performing...IF YOU CAN ACCOMPLISH THESE TASKS WE WILL HAIL YOU AS A GOD.

Its not our owner, it's not tannenbaum, that is going to keep coaches away.

It's tannehill. You guys can say what you want, but if there was belief around NFL circles he was a good qb, we would easily have the best head coaching vacancy in the NFL, especially with Suh on the defensive side.

But if coaches don't believe he's a good qb, and they know there stuck with him, there not going to risk possibly there only shot at being a head Coach because Tannehill sucks. He's already going on his 4th OC, don't think coaches don't notice that.

This is why I want Shannahan. If even he's not high on him anymore, than we could be in trouble.

I really hope there is way out of his contract as was rumored.

Lol so youre saying that have tannehill is worse than have no qb like cleveland or the eagles? Give it a break dude... Tannehill may not be great, you can stretch it and say hes not above average but at the very worst he's average which is more than just about any other coach gets when he takes a job. But yes essentially after this year tannehill can be cut to save 14 million in 17 then 20 or so million the next two years. After we cut him then you can be happy cause now we can finally go through another 13 years of career backups like aj feely, cleo lemon, sage rosenfels, jay fielder, joey harrington, ray lucus and the 10 other ****ty qbs until we found tannehill.

Biggest fallacy out there, whether you write it or a journalist writes it.

Love him or hate him, this franchise is tied to him for one more year.

What are you talking about? The QB situation is perfect for a new coach. He can draft any qb he wants, and let him sit for a year. If Tannehill doesn't work out, he has his guy getting ready. If Tannehill proves to be a solid QB, then he's set. It's a win/win. Unless his rookie ends up sucking. Hell, he even has a chance to draft a qb in 2017, if he doesn't like anyone in the 2016 draft. The new HC will not be tied to the current QB.

1. Giants
2. Bucs
3. Titans
4. Dolphins
5. Eagles
6. 49ers
7. Browns

that is the way I see it. Titans get the slight edge over the Dolphins because of Mariota's rookie salary and the 1st overall pick. A lot of flexibility between the cap space and high picks for a coach to come in and mold that team. Don't have to worry about QB in Tampa or Tennessee (at least yet), however there is some concern about Tannehill; plus a decision will have to be made to start from scratch in 2017 due to his contract.

Titans ahead of Eagles/Dolphins is a joke. Awful team whose ownership group is suing the NFL to retain ownership.

They're probably going to keep Mike Mularkey for the simple fact that they want the team to be attractive for purchase when they are forced to sell it.

Looking at it historically, and with current players in mind.
1. Dolphins
2. Giants
3. 49'ers
4. Eagles
5. Browns
6. Titans
7. Bucs

Misleading list, since Bates and Campbell were interim coaches. Team had to appoint someone from within after the HC was fired.
BB gets too much credit. Brady is the reason the team is successful.
In the mid 80s the Phins dominated due to Marino (only franchise QB in the division). When Kelly left the USFL, he took over the Bills who had a strong roster due to being bad for so many yrs and picking up high draft picks. The Bills then dominated.
The AFC east has had only 1 franchise QB in the last 15 yrs and that has been Brady.

For a coach on his first head coaching job, having a bad qb is worse than having no qb, by far. Nothing About tannehilll was above average this year. We just locked him into a new contract.

Coaches don't last in this league without good QBs. That's a fact.

If you don't think you can bring tannehill into the top 10, than your not taking this job.

After last season tannehills stats wer all trending up, I had high hopes for him, but you need to be realistic, he was below average this year. That is very scary when trying tonproject him as a franchise qb.

First rnd pick and a young qb to develop, and a pretty decent defense.

It's by far the best choice as far as roster goes. Ownership a different story. But roster trumps that IMO.

I don't know how long were stuck with him, 1 more year would be fine with me though. But for a new head coach, being stuck with him for 2-3 years Would make this job very undesirable.
