The same as the consensus on this board. I wonder if he has been reading our posts?:ponder:

Miami Dolphins’ quarterback Josh Rosen “lost” the quarterback “competition” to Ryan Fitzpatrick this preseason — yielding the starting job to Fitzpatrick for this week’s season opener against the Baltimore Ravens. Who knows if or when we’ll see Miami make a change from Fitzpatrick to Rosen this season, or if the Dolphins have already seen what they need to in order to make an evaluation that Rosen will be facing more competition from another quarterback next year — one taken early in the 2020 NFL Draft.

But with what Rosen did show us this preseason, especially relative to where he was at the beginning of the summer and at the end of his rookie season in Arizona, there should definitely be a source of optimism that Rosen will be an asset to the Dolphins regardless of what the plan is at quarterback. Whether that plan involves Rosen serving as the primary back-up for the foreseeable future, he’s traded as a reclamation project to a desperate team or if he were to wrestle away the Dolphins’ starting job and never look back — Rosen’s story with Miami is far from finished.

only 2 possibility-he's not good enough and will only be a b/up this yr and next. or he's good enough but were keeping him back because our o/line is so bad this yr we will have to wait till 2020 to see him play.

Funny how you can pretty much say the same thing for the up coming QB's in the future drafts.
They could also be not as good on an NFL level without their high quality surroundings as seen substantially through past examples. Also pulling the rains back due to OL and not wanting the QB trampled under the stampede of the opposing defense.
ya gotta take a shot and we have a fine a quality potential QB as any maybe better than most. Time has to tell not crystal balls...

I think it could be possibly option 3: They know they made some trades and cuts of veterans. They wanted a veteran presence for the first handful of games who's been there and done that. I could see Rosen starting after the bye week or if Fitzgerald is just terrible at some point.

I may be in the minority here, but I do not think Rosen is good.

You're not in the minority, I don't think...but I'm of the opinion that MOST people aren't entirely sold on him definitively being the answer or not. I'm hopeful, and like what I saw in the preseason. If he can be "the guy" this year, overcoming what looks like a tragic offensive line and lack of talent, awesome. If not? Bring in another QB early in the draft, have them compete. Hopefully one of them can be the guy. Soon.

I mean all you have to do is watch him in that third preseason game to see that there is a ball of talent there we haven’t fielded at that spot since Marino retired.

Now is that talent fully realized one day, who knows, but with the oline in the state its in right now, the team shouldnt risk losing all the progress he has made from the day he stepped into the building up until now and beyond, if they dont have to.

Tua aint carrying this same group, and the team would be dumb to start him as well if he was on the team.

You get Josh a full year in a system and watch him work everyday and he continues to get better, you will have a hard time convincing me of grabbing any QB if his name isn’t Tua, in 2020.

Now of course college football just started and things change and they may throw Josh in there and he gets destroyed . . . . But I think he hasnt gotten a fair shot to determine if he just isnt very good or not.

Coach Flo spent the whole offseason downplaying Josh, and after that third game he was at a loss for words because Josh was making all the right decisions and lead a stagnant offense to multiple scoring drives.

He wants more of that.

I think the plan is to throw Fitz to the wolves and let rosin step in after the nose dive with the hopes of a more cohesive o line.

It's hard to tell at this point what we got with him. He has the tools, no doubt about that. That pocket awareness that we never saw with Tannehill. The guy can make plays. Can he do it on a regular basis and during the regular season? That's the question and we can't answer that till we see him do it or not do it. Time will tell but I'm glad he's on the team. If he's not the guy then we used a 2nd round pick which I really value but this was a chance worth taking. If he's not the guy then you hope for the top pick in the draft and take Tua. Don't complicate things.

The flashes are there with Rosen. If you were watching the preseason games without a preconceived notion about Rosen based on his 12 starts with the Cardinals, you could be excited about what you saw. If you hated the Rosen trade and felt that 12 starts defined his future, then you could pick him apart and point to a few bad throws for confirmation bias.

Bottom line, he’s 22 years old and there is no legitimate way to write him off at this point.

be nice to find out

I get the feeling that I am the only one who watched the Patriots offense the last 20 years. Rosen did not fail to get the starter job because he doesn't have it. He is not the backup because the staff erred when they picked him up in a trade. Fitz is the starter because he plays it safe. Brady has a low INT rate because he plays it safe and only takes risk when necessary or when it is called for.
The best pass of Rosen in preseason was the one where he lost any chance of being the starter on opening day. It was that rocket to Ford while he was scrambling to the right. A pin point accurate pass to Ford while he was surrounded by two defenders. It was a highlite reel pass - for the fans and the media.
For Flores and O'Shea it was an error they cannot forgive. One receiver was underneath. He was the safe option. All Rosen had to do was drop that ball to him, a simple and safe throw and catch.
Rosen had chosen the risky pass which in regular season against regular starters could have been deflected - or worse intercepted. He should have chosen the short and safe throw. That's what O'Shea and Flores want to see.

When that pass was completed I said right away "he just lost the starting job" while I was actually high-fiving a couple of fans in the stadium.

Fitz plays it safe. He takes what is there or allowed and lives for another series. He did not win the job. Rosen played himself out of it because he is young and hot headed. He thinks he has to prove something from last year and makes decisions the coaches do not want to see at this point.
Brady has earned that right to make crazy decisions but if we go back to his first couple years (even his first year with the Superbowl win) he was a rather pedestrian QB and only sticking to the script. Rosen did not earn that right yet.
Fitz has earned that right to make a dumb decision once in a while because he is a 15-year veteran and can stay on script. Rosen - not yet.

Rosen has to learn to stay on script. Being the backup will give him time to learn from Fitz's positive and negative plays. Rosen has shown that he can be the starter. But just like a child who is on time out because it did not listen to the parents Rosen has to stay on the sidelines until he learns to listen to O'Shea and Flores.
I can guarantee you that they will quiz him on the sidelines and let him analyze some of the plays to see "if he gets it". The moment he does, he will start.
