NFL.com's first Power Rankings of the new league year

At one time we were in their shoes (consistently in mix for playoffs even before season started), and the Patriots were in ours (Inconsistently reaching the playoffs), then Miami lost a man named Dan Marino, and there you go.....soon Tommy Terrific will be retiring, then It will become the age of Tannehill in the AFC East.

God I hope so.....

Last year our defense ranked in the top 10 in just about everything. We were one of only three defenses to post a shutout. We have one of the best D units in the afc because that's what we were and will be. We haven't even unleashed the Kraken (Dion Jordan for you dimmer people not understanding references) yet. Nolan Carroll is gone, boo hoo. I hate Finnegan but between him and a healthy Jamar Taylor there should be a clear improvement.

When something on the Fins is good enjoy it- quit bitching.

 We were best in WHAT areas?? We were the 21st ranked defense, how is that top 10 in about everything? We were not in the top half of the league in defense. Our run D was terrible, our LBs were worse, and our best run stopper left for Alt.

ruckus so there should be a clear improvement over carroll by the a rookie who did absolutely nothing last year and a guy who was rated 109 out of 110 cb's? wow man put down the bottle , its a little too early in the day. yeah and im sure a guy who never was a sack machine in college and was certainly not one last year is going to be unleashed this year. hahahahahahahahahahahahahahha

Probably talking about scoring defense, we were eighth.

I can't see how we are ranked 17th. We have no OL, very bad LBs, one of the worst RB situations in the league. We have no blocking TEs and a WR core that will scare no one. We have time and money to get better before the season gets here but as we stand right now I can't see us in the top 20, more like 23-25.

Ranking us that high has to be from possible potential, not on talent that has been proven.

Speaking of scoring defense, for some time it seems like every team with a top 10 scoring defense has had a winning record except us :tubes:.....and the Browns. The offense's inability to score is what's holding the team back ultimately(30th in 2010, 20th in 2011, 27th in 2012, 26th in 2013) smh.

#17 is about right considering what we did last year. 8-8 with no OL, RB, bad LB's, etc. Rankings are basically done on potential so that could explain it, not to mention we have something that has been holding the team back for a while in a QB.

I think some of you guys are too pessimistic. You don't think they are going to address most of their problems in the draft? You don't think maybe someone like Jenkins, Jordan, Taylor/Davis, Sims breaks out in their second year?

7th in scoring D (what really matters)
6th in opponent passer rating
11th in sacks (sorry, just outside 10)
10th in ints

We did drop out of top ten in last two games in a couple of categories. Sorry, I stand corrected on a few. To say we werent top half is lunacy, especially with no O to keep them off the field.

why exactly would we have one of the best defensive units in the afc? cause of louis delmas? finnegan was awful last year and jamar taylor and will davis showed pretty much nothing all year. oh and reshad jones was also really pathetic last year. theres nothing but question marks on this whole defense.

So guys with down years never rebound?

Arguing with you an ktown over this is like trying to convince somebody Usain Bolt is fast.

Seems simple to me. Even with all horrible players as you describe, Miami was 8-8 last year. Being ranked in the middle of the power rankings is a direct reflection of an 8-8 record is it not?

ruckus we were 8-8last year and missed the playoffs for the 5th straight year and 12th out of the last 13 years. we had 10 picks, 5 in the first 3 rounds and what do we have to show for it? and we spent more than any other team in free agency. argue that.

So now Dion Jordan is the Kraken? Haha. Whatever helps people sleep at night I guess.
