NFL Draft Countdown's Grade for Dolphins

Now I always say that the golden rule of the NFL Draft is that unless you already have a franchise quarterback you don't pass on one but that's exactly what the Dolphins did and who they passed on Quinn for makes it all that much worse.

How the hell do they know if Quinn is already a francise QB? I wonder if they could send me the winning powerball numbers for this week. :rolleyes2

Ginn has some durability issues and at the time of the draft he was only about 75-80% recovered from an ankle injury that he suffered in January. Apparently he is a slow healer and with his slight, 180 lbs. frame injuries are going to be a very real concern.
Another clueless sportswriter.

What frustrates me more than anything is when people sumarize our draft as poor simply because they feel Brady Quinn is the next Tom Brady. After the draft I have more respect for Cam and Randy by not selecting Quinn because it was the easy way out. I agree with the Front Office in not selecting Brady Quinn although the Ginn pick left me scratching my head. I know Ginn has something special you can't teach and that is speed and the ability to make plays. His route running, coverage recongnition, and ability to become more physical can be taught. I must say that his speed will intimitate a lot of D.B.'s and make them think twice about playing press coverage. Also there are a lot of ways to get a reciver away from press coverage such as playing him at the flanker or slot were he is off the ball and has room to release. Bunch formations and motions also prevent D.B.'s from pressing recievers. All in all our draft is growing on me I will be the first to say that in my mock for the Dolphins I got 0 correct. To end this rant I will say don't bash our draft because we didn't take the overrated Quinn..

Scott Wright was a former NFL scout, so I think he may have a little more insight than what some people on this board give him. And going by his grading system - passing on the QB he had ranked above JaMarcus Russell in his player rankings (again his opinion) it's no wonder we got such a low grade in his mind. But obviously, Cameron and Mueller's regime will hinge on that decision until Beck proves them wrong.

I don't think we will have to wait long to see how it pans out. With our current QB situation we may see how good the kid is this year.

We need to take off the rose colored glasses for just a second. Whether some of the extreme homers here want to believe it or not, this writer may be dead on. Mueller and Cameron went out on a limb BIG TIME by bypassing Brady Quinn. Quite a few scouts compare John Beck to a Brandon Domain, not exactly a franchise QB. I REALLY hope John Beck becomes a great QB for us and I will support him, but don't pretend that there is no way in hell Mueller-Cameron blew the pick. I think some of you lash out at people who question the pick because you yourselves secretly question the pick but don't want to admit it.

What really pisses me off is that other teams who passed on him who definitely needs a QB doesn't get this much heat. WTF?

Wake up...some people are afraid to admit that Cam and Mueller screwed up. What happens next year when we have a high draft pick and a QB is there....we pass on him cause we have beck...........bad move:fire:

I wouldn't say they screwed up already though I have my reservations. If we do get a high draft pick next year, you can be sure Mueller and Cam aren't stupid enough to make the same mistakes, though you'll never know. Wayne and the fans will really be breathing down their necks by then.

IMO the teams that surround these draft picks will eventually determine there success, now if they turn out to be truely special and lead there team i.e. J. Beck or B.Quinn then they deserve the FRANCHISE title....Time will tell

lol i love quotes like this because in a year as they are claiming to be a huge beck fan because he is doing well, someone will pull this back up and shove it in their face so many times they will be afraid to come back and read the boards. I see this is your first post so welcome :)

We by far were in worse shape than any other team at QB except maybe detroit.

Them and Cleveland. Detroit was supposedly very high on local Drew Stanton anyways. Though maybe Cleveland knew we were going to pass on Quinn and decided to bide their time.

Wright is a former NFL Scout? As in employed by a particular team? That's news to me, and I've been following his site since about 1996. Which team was he a scout for? Since he's been a sports writer for years and a member of the FWAA, IMO, you are mistaken on this.

Two draft gurus who are documented as and well known to have been college scouts for NFL teams are Dan Shonka who runs ourlads.com now, and Russ Lande or gmjr.com

Wright's usually pretty decent in his evals, but I'll lend more credence myself to what Lande and Shonka have to say, and our very own Boomer for that matter, who could be employed as a pro football writer if he wished to be badly enough.
