I was listening to Colin Cowherd this morning and he was talking about the Suck for Luck sweepstakes. He mentioned that with that in previous years teams didnt tnak b/c most teams didnt want the #1 pick due to the financial obligation that was tied to it. BUT then he went on to say that with the new CBA and there being a rookie wage scale that many teams may start tanking in the end for Luck even more. All valid points. Now the kicker came when he mentioned that the NFL would propose a Draft Lottery like the NBA does. Could the NFL out of no where just implement a draft lottery like that? This would be a really big deal for the Suck for Luck sweepstakes.

I think a lottery could become part of the NFL draft. I think it is too late to impact the 2012 draft, but it definitely could be in place by the 2013 draft. They could use the whole Luck saga as a reason for doing it.

If the fins get the #1 pick, it wouldn't suprise me at all if the NFL pulled some crap like that!

I would be sooo crushed. That would happen to us though. This team is cursed.

The NFL can't just change and makeup rules midseason... A move like this could only happen during the offseason, after the draft.

hell no they could not just change something like that in season...i think there might be something down the road where they could vote on it etc and with goodell you never know what he has up his sleeve but there would be a riot from whatever team finshed with the worst record this year and the #1 pick if goodell implemented a draft lottery...not to mention the nba draft lottery has been fixed by david stern many times

Hasn't that creep Roger Greedell already made rule changes, albeit much smaller, midseason already?

Realistically though, I agree that the "Suck for Luck" mentality could be the impetus for a lottery possibly by 2013 or soon thereafter.

Oh really! Didn't they make a rule up in the Raiders Patriots playoff game a few years ago.... The Brady Rule I think?

exactly, you would see the patsies get the number one pick with only one ball in the bin

They didnt make that up in the middle of the season. It already existed all season. The only reason noone knew about it was because a situation didn't arise until the playoffs. That same rule is still in effect today.

Of the rules I know the NFL can only change the rules if they see the need to protect the well being of players. other than that they cant change anything right away. Because you know some owners are going to be like "yeah there should be a draft lottery this year" just so they can have a chance at luck.

Its not part of the new CBA. Will not be implemented for another 10 years.

Goddelll........start the reactor

NO.... NBA has a lottery cause that sport BLOWS! the worst team should get the #1 pick. How do we not know that the lottery isn't rigged. Look this year clevland get the #1 pick? cause LeChoke left. NBA is a bunch off *** clowns.

It is not part of the current CBA, but they can always modify certain aspects of things during the course of those 10 years. If they can change the picks lengths and put the first round on Thursday under the old CBA, they can put in a lottery during this CBA. It won't happen in time for the 2012 draft, but I think if they want to go that route that we could see a lottery by 2013 or 2014.
