6-foot-5, 253 pounds
Key stats: Registered 32.5 tackles for loss in the past two seasons (27 starts) combined.
The skinny: One of the best football families going features father Ferrell Edmunds — a seven-year NFL tight end and a two-time Pro Bowler for the Miami Dolphins — and three sons: Tremaine; Terrell, a safety with the Hokies; and older brother Trey, a running back (who transferred from Virginia Tech to Maryland) who is now on the New Orleans Saints.
Tremaine Edmunds played as a prep in the 215-pound range but added weight as he made his impact on the field. He played in 13 games, primarily on special teams, but also started two games at linebacker (11 tackles, 2.5 TFL, most of them coming in the Independence Bowl vs. Tulsa), logging 273 special-teams snaps as a freshman in 2015.
In 2016, Edmunds kept his starting role for all 14 games and was named second team All-ACC after logging 106 tackles (18.5 for loss), 4.5 sacks, one fumble recovery and one interception. As a true junior in 2017, Edmunds was a Butkus Award finalist and was named third team All-America and first team All-ACC. He totaled 109 tackles (14 for loss), 5.5 sacks and three forced fumbles in 13 starts.
Edmunds, who doesn’t turn 20 years old until May, declared for the 2018 NFL draft. He participated in the NFL scouting combine but opted not to perform the vertical jump, shuttle drills or the 3-cone drill. Only performed positional drills at Tech’s pro day.
