Imagine if the NFL used a different system to draft player and the Dolphins could use UM as a farm system to draft players, we'd probably only need to import a qb. at rb we'd have Edge, Willis, Portis, Davenport. at wr we'd have Moss, reggie, andre johnson at TE Shockey, Franks, Winslow. the defense would be sick starting with Ray, Vilma, DJ, Ed reed, Wilfork, Buchanan, taylor just to name a few, The dolphins would be an amazing team for years!!!!

GO FINS & CANES!!!!

it surprises me a LOT that some kind of minor league (with NFL affiliates) football has not caught on in this country... instead we have NFL europe? c'mon... i know the World League failed, but what were they trying to accomplish? sellouts? ... unrealisitc...

there are cities in this country that would support a minor league to develop these 20-24 yearolds... Birmingham? Hartford? Little Rock? Raleigh? Albany? Boise? Portland? Columbus/Canton???... if it was handled by the NFL, and done professionally, i think it could work... and could give NFL teams a 55-man taxi squad, rather than 5...

The "farm system" already exists... except its free for all pro teams. Its the NCAA...

granted... but, why then do baseball and hockey have thriving minor leagues, despite the colleges?

because college baseball and hockey arnt big at all..

baseball kids dont even go to college. It has been established that way for forever with minor leagues.

and hockey... well... when was the last time you saw a college hockey game on TV?

College football is HUGE with lots of national attention and spotlight... thus negating the need for teams paying for minor leagues when they can pretty much be had for free. That is the main factor...

A farm system is a great idea IMO , it could have and should have been implemented better with NFL Europe or even the original World League , which had a mix of US and European teams.

i say it stays the same why mess with perfection

because a lot of players never develop or get a chance to develop after college... especially quarterbacks, who never get any game action before they're thrown in there and it's too late... these guys don't really want to go to europe anymore...

dont forget besides NFL Europe... there is also the CFL and the AFL... both also semi-like minor leagues...

There are many semi-pro leagues and NFL EUROPE, the Canadian League, etc. But the NFL should establish a farm system HERE in the states that are ran by NFL directly. Each team would have a team that could be coached by one of it's regular teams "lesser" coaches and they could have a scout on the staff that is present regularly and of course all of the execs and head coach of the NFL team watches the games and/ or tapes and evaluates the progress of players. This would be a good league for some of these lower draft picks and undrafted players to go develop for several years, then come into the NFL and give their teams a boost in areas of need, whether it be a quick fix or a permanent roster spot. IF the team no longer needs his services on the roster, they do not CUT him, they send him back to the farm team. It makes perfect sense to me. The farm team's season should start about 2 months before the NFL teams for the sake of learning what's going on and having time to prepare in case he is called up early in the NFL season. THe farm system could run about half way through the NFL season. THere should then be a cut off date where a team is allowed to bring up players, 2 of which could be used as ADDITIONS to the 53 man roster, bringing the Post-season roster number up to 55.

Just my thoughts on it.
Good thread, by the way.

rochester also, we just had a beautiful stadium built, sure its more of a soccer stadium but we could have football on there

We have a farm system - The Arizona Cardinals next year. The Cleveland Browns this past year

I know the NFL has put money into the CFL to help the CFL out, and they have set guidelines about players goin between the leagues.
