NFL: Miami Dolphins’ Mike Pouncey will have to be checked for psychological issues...

What about a psych test for Ray Rice? Oh wait the NFL doesn't care about wife beating
Wife beating is fine.

Bullying a 6'5 350 pound man is quite another matter, sir.

Nothing. Irsay isn't an employee of the league.
He's still subject to discipline.

Goodell's even on record saying so.

Why not require a psychological evaluation as a result of aberrant behavior as it might uncover some treatable mental condition. The evaluation alone may help them (and others) realize the impact of their actions and possibly help prevent them from doing something even worse in the future.
If the NFL is going to require medical evaluations for possible concussions then testing for psychotic tendencies when evident seems quite reasonable.
If they require it for every disciplinary infraction, sure, why not?
Like, say, drunk driving, substance abuse, spousal abuse.....

I hope Ross is in this guys ear all week, the Dolphins organization has been nothing but overly cooperative and willing to do anything to help with this process, and Godell does us like this? Ross should be pissed and rightfully so.

As a mental health nurse I was waiting for the NFL and Goodell to do exactly this.

Part is cya, part is identifying problems before they start.

Lastly drug abuse falls under the mental health umbrella not surprised in the root cause is the texts talking about drugs at Pounceys crib.

On a different but somewhat related note:

Where's Tony Dungy trying to mentor Incognito to help him get back to NFL?

I mean he did it for a much worse person who actually COMMITTED a felony of sociopathic nature.

Oh wait, Incognito is white..

This is pathologically sick on goodell's part.

It's all part of an Agenda that needs to be obliterated.

The NFL (like most of society today) is in the process of adopting a stupid and asinine tautology that goes like this:

1. Behavior like what they did is prima facie evidence of racism.

2. Racism is a mental disturbance.

3. Such people need some form of mental re-wiring or reprogramming.

ALL THREE ARE DISGUSTINGLY WRONG ASSUMPTIONS.

When only "PC" thinking is considered to be "normal", we are in a BOATLOAD of trouble as a society. Everyone who doesn't hew the party line is considered mentally ill. That is Hitler and Stalin stuff.

When you have men with such a high profile and idolized by many impressionable children and teenagers then keeping them out of trouble and demanding that they exhibit proper behavior at all times only makes good sense. Because of the power they have to influence young minds to mimic their poor actions the players should most certainly be held to high behavior standards and disciplined accordingly when they fail to do so.

Far too many people that support inappropriate and dangerous behavior have no idea (or may not even care for that matter) what irreversible damage can be caused to the young mans life and others around him if that behavior is not stopped.

So yes, psych evaluations, counseling, group therapy etc., should be part of being an NFL player when deemed necessary.

I dunno, maybe I'm the only one, but IMO "bullying" (often getting as good as you gave) a 6'5" 310lb overgrown baby with mama issues pales in comparison to Ray Rice, demonstrating the lack of self-control by knocking his fiancee unconscious in a public casino and Ndomikin Suh, using the excuse of gameplay to freely, maliciously and sometimes violently vent his rage on 6 opposing players. Alleged Harassment vs outright physical assaults? If Pouncey and crew needs to undertake an eval before earning the right play, shouldn't Rice and Suh also? And considering who all 6 victims of Suh's wrath were, maybe even some racial sensitivity training for him?

Then you've got too many active players who've been arrested for DUI in the last year as per Florio's Police Blotter. What's more irresponsible and dangerous than using your car to potentially commit vehicular homicide on innocent strangers? And how often does one DUI really signify an anomaly versus a recurring problem? Shouldn't every player arrested for drunk driving and endangering others out of season be compelled to undergo alcoholism therapy and MADD sensirtivity raising classes before they're permitted to get back on the field; and if popped in season, shouldn't they immediately be compelled to spend 2 free nights a week in such classes- or risk being suspended?

Not for nothin', but if I were Pouncey's lawyer or even the union, I'd be demanding equal treatment, even if Pouncey et al's "offenses" pale by comparison to inflicting actual physical injury or the potential for vehicular homicide, lest I be screaming "selective discrimination" from the rooftops!

You can glean all the DUIs over the last year from this list:

If he's going to require it from a bully's stand point then he should require it in domestic violence, Murder, DUI, Drugs..Etc He's protecting the NFL not the players.. All Player's should be psyched before entering the NFL... By a Doctor! Not the GM..

If I was Pouncey I would fight this. IMO this would be a very bad standard to set if he was to simply go along with this. Goodell is far too PC on some issues for my taste. Yes I know that's not how the players usually view Goodell.

Hopefully Pouncey psychologically tests out of playing center and is moved to guard. (Not that that comment even makes any sense, but either does the NFL right now)
