NFL Network (Brian Baldinger) breaks down the game winning drive against New England

You realize that he's actually 25 . He shaves his face and also happens to be married. He just looks 19.

25, with barely two years in the league and you're still a kid. Especially in the NFL. Haha

He's done it vs the Jets and Ravens, too. Jets, Carp straight up choked. Ravens, Clay dropped a football, protection broke down, and Sturgis missed. That 4th and long play vs Baltimore was just eye-popping.

It needs to be seen again..

Miracle drive? Are you assuming they weren't capable of driving down the field?

Yeah it's a miracle that we converted on 3rd and 16 from our own end like that. That's not exactly an easy task against the Pats.

Nothing in the NFL is easy regardless of opponent. And "miracles", as you call them, are simply when preparation meets opportunity.

You don't think the Patriots were prepared to play defense and stop us on 3rd and 16? It may not be a "miracle" in the sense that it was a last second hail mary but to pick up 11 on 3rd and then somehow pull out that 4th down by half a yard is as close to a non-winning play miracle as you can get. There was less than a 20% probability of us converting there so that's quite impressive to me and it's especially so when done against a very well prepared and disciplined Patriots team.

and what's the first thing I notice in this video? Jon Martin getting pushed onto his back within 2 seconds of the snap

you'll get that a lot with the first 5 or so weeks of left and right tackle play...either on their backs or shoved straight back into the qb from the outside in and edge defenders keeping that inside arm free so if he steps up he climbs right into the contact...

that's why all that blame the qb stuff was so laughable...yeah he's contributed sometimes like any young qb does pretty much but god dang the protection was horrid then...especially the situational protection in big moments...punch a baby bad

It's hilarious that the announcer said "to a wide open Marcus Thigpen" because at the moment the ball was thrown, Thipgen was completely obstructed (from Tanny's view) behind the DE dropped in coverage by NE. While the ball was in the air, Thigpen cut and used his speed to separate from the defender, grab the ball and then cut right to run towards the endzone. A lot could've happened while that ball was in the air to prevent that play from succeeding, but the throw was perfect. It wasn't too fast to to buzzing by while Thigpen made his cut, it wasn't too slow to hang there and allow the defender to adjust. It just arrived perfectly as if Tanny was standing there and handing it to Thigpen. Thigpen also avoided the mistake of looking for the ball too soon, as many receivers are wont to do.
Thigpen definitely seems to have some good instincts and some polish on his technique as a receiver. When he cut and accelerated, he separated so quickly that it created the perception that he was wide open. The level of skill displayed by both Thigpen and Tannehill is what makes NFL football a great product. These guys, NFL players, are definitely as good at what they do as the first-chair violin for the NY Philharmonic.

As far as that 4th and 10 play vs Baltimore, what I see is Brandon Gibson falling down, without contact, on a ball that hit him perfectly in stride. No reason not to keep running there. He had so much momentum that the defender should not have had a chance to catch him. When I see our QB make a play that good, I want him to be rewarded with the outcome his play deserves. That was a game winning TD pass that Gibson blew. I mean, 'Yay', he didn't drop it. It was practically handed to him though cuz it was dropping in nicely right to his hands when it got there.

Every now and then, one of Tannehill's teamates will make a special play to catch a 'meh', throw by Tannehill, but it's definitely the exception. The rule is Tannehill putting that ball right on the receiver's hands (other than Wallace on deep balls, I know, I know). I pity NFL defenses when Tannehill corrects that last shortcoming, and it's coming SOON, IMO.

In addendum to my post above (the 2nd one). The ball that Tannehill threw against Carolina was certainly good enough to be caught by Wallace. It hit him in the hands. Both of them and not the fingertips either.

Some really great plays on that drive, my heart is almost in my throat again even though I know how it turned out!

The TD pass I remember when it was happening live, even before Thigpen made the catch the great feeling of Oh yeah the defender has no effin idea where that football is!!!
