NFL Network: Dolphins should stick with Matt Moore as QB

He was given a month after they benched him to recover, I mean seriously if the concussion was that bad he would have not played the next week, so he was not rushed that total speculation. Too many excuses he played horrible that season he played well last year and no excuses to that either . After his horrible game versus ST Louis he deserved a benching. he deserves an opportunity to show us more he doesnt deserve to be handed a starting job

You're right, he doesn't deserve to be handed the job but he does deserve to compete for it from the get-go.

You do realize don't you that he started 35% of the games for that miserable team and lame duck coach yet delivered 50% of the wins.. and his 1-5 record was better than the next season's upgraded team and energized new coach where Cam started the season also going 1-5 and then 2-9 before the team got some traction? Interestingly the game before the StLouis game, against the 49ers he did throw for 308 yds, 2TDs and 1Ints. Even on that awful, dispirited team, who's to say if they weren't so invested in Clausen, that Moore wouldn't have hit the same sort of stride that Cam ended up doing the next year if allowed to continue on?

we may never know but lets not act like that team had no weapons on offense. Im not going to disparage moore he had one good a season for us and if he continued to play like that then he would be a find and I could respect him as our qb but we would be doing quite a disservice to ride on him solely. you have to remember though if we sign Fynn there will be no qb competition and rightfully so based on the money we will pay him. Personally I would rather draft a qb, bring back Henne bring back Moore keep Devlin and let the peices fall where they may.

That's an awful idea.

ok, ive read all the posts and here is my take.

If we trade the farm for Luck or RG3 (not the whole farm for RG3), then im good with it.
If we get Payton Manning for a reduced price based in incentives, im good with it.. Manning can help Moore get better too and he may have to play should we get him.
If we get Flynn I am good with it too because even though he is being puffed up a little based on two games where one was against a really crappy D, he deserves a payday because, well, QB's dont grow on trees.
If we draft a second round type guy in tannehill or Foles or even other no names who lesser known, then you cannot go wrong so long as you get guys who are coachable and have some obvious talent and leadership skills.

Bottom line: I like Matt Moore. I think he can do better in a full offseason with his new coaches and same players with improved OL. Nobody mentioned those facts from last year. Its a big deal. Matt Moore did very well in that light. Thats why I think Peyton would benefit Moore's carreer whether its here or somewhere else.

A franchise QB is more the guy you are drafting and you make them your future for a long time based on talent and leadership skills. A starter doesnt have to be someone who is a franchise QB. Joe Flacco a franchise QB? That is a question they are asking in Baltimore whether they admit it or not.

We should keep looking for QB's this year and next year and next year after that because Ireland is almost there building the rest of the team. Last year I said no to Mallett and others because the timing was not right. We ended up better for having Moore. I trust these guys to find the right people.

and yes, i would sell the farm for Luck. QB's like him dont come along very often.

That's an awful idea.

So trading up for an RG3 is an awful idea well thats your opinion. Drafting him or Tanney hill later seem like better ideas than any that may be available esp just plain sticking with moore

Re-signing Henne is an awful idea. Watching Moore another year is a waste. We aren't winning anything with him.

Please let matt moore compete with rg3, manning, or flynn in camp so its evident once and for all how lackluster he is.

You also said Todd Bowles was going to be the head coach......

and you were all for it....... thats even WORSE!!

go away.

Watch all of those who've been on Penny's jock, citing him as the only good QB between Dan and now on account of his smarts, leadership and grasp of the game, now throwing him and his opinions under the bus.. or impugning some of his judgment but not all

Pennington, 35, has undergone four surgeries on his throwing shoulder and said he might soon file his retirement papers. He said the best part of the Dolphins' ongoing search for a quarterback is that they have Matt Moore under contract.

"Regardless of what happens, he's the stability," Pennington said. "He can hold it together. And he's someone who has proven he deserves a shot at the starting role."

Pennington, who switched from playing to broadcasting last season after a torn ACL in a pickup basketball game sidelined him for the season, has been working with NFL Draft prospects at the TEST Football Academy on the Florida Atlantic University campus.

He said pursuing Green Bay backup Matt Flynn in free agency could be the best answer for the Dolphins because it would set up a competition for the starting job between Flynn and Moore.

"Now you've got two guys who have proven they can do it, and with them pushing each other you may get one to take the lead role," Pennington said. "That's not a bad situation."

The problem with Penny's analysis is if we sign Flynn there is no competition. You dont spend that kind of money to say hey go at it. Penny has played in the NFL long enough to realize that but yet makes this silly statement

Looking over the QBs who did start in 2011 I would have to put Moore somewhere in the 11-16 range. He wasnt great but he wasnt bad and his play was better then at least 1/2 the othe QBs around the NFL. The real question for me is if last season was his ceiling, or if he turned a corner, and is going to continue to grow into the position. Something he seems to have in Miami is chemistry with his offense. The team overall played better with him under center then they did with Henne. If after Philbin and his staff take a look at him and decide there is something in him thats worth working with and they feel there isnt any better options out there, I have no issue with him being named the starter. He has earned a 2nd look to see if he can build on his sucess last season and correct the deficiencies he has. Moore is a mixed bag of results but its not unussaul for a QB to need a few seasons to develop and I would not shut the door on him just yet. At the bare minium I think he could be at least as good as hostetler was for us. Thats nothing to brag about but it is servicable while we search for something better. I think the approach should be that the starter postion is his to lose. If we can not bring someone into camp that can beat him out then I do not want that guy as the starter until he can. That allows us another look at Moore and allows a rookie QB the benefit of being groomed on the bench so that if he is ever ready/needed to take the field he does it better prepared then just throwing him out straight out of college.
