NFL Network Predicts ATLEAST 9 Wins!

Adam Shefner (sp?) on NFL Total Access on the NFL Network just talked about Saban and the Dolphins. He said after seeing whats going on down here in Miami, that there is no doubt in his mind that we will win atleast 9 games this season...

Thought you all might like that...

What he said was that the Fins haven't had back to back losing seasons since 1968-1969 and because of that the Fins will win 9 games. Not exactly something I would take to the bank. I do think 9 wins are possible, but you are taking his statement out of context. It's amazing, some people only hear what they want to.

The NFL Network is going to say positive things about EVERY team in the league...but it's encouraging that an analyst would say something THIS positive. Of course, every analyst will throw out a few long shots just to raise and eyebrow from the viewers, and, on occassion, come up with a good "prediction" which makes them look like a good analyst.
Unfortunately, there's really nothing to analyse yet. Watching a few drills and seeing the players run around in half-pads shows jack-sh*t. We can look at the pieces like our coaching staff changes, player additions/subtractions and (this is a stretch even) the morale of the team. But that says very little to anyone who has ever watched a lot of football. Football is about teamwork and commitment and desire and talent...in that order. Here's an example that everyone will hate but you have to respect - Troy Brown and the shredded secondary of the Pats late last season.
NFL Network, which I love since they air old games and have up to date news, is not a place where they should be predicting scenarios and grading teams. It's like a father of 32 (imagine Utah, OK?) telling us what each of his kids is going to do this year and if one's going to succeed and the other isn't. Leave the speculation to the other pseudo-news broadcasts, the only one worth a salt being Inside the NFL - at least we have a great journalist (Costas) surrounded by Hall of Famers there.
Getting back to the topic - If we go 9-7 then I'll be happy as hell. But because some boob on TV says it before pre-season? Come on. That's like someone picking you up off the ground this summer after they kicked you for 10 months. Analysts are a dime a dozen. Most people on this website know more about our team than any of those guys, so why listen and get frustrated or excited either way?
We will be better than last year - almost everyone who knows the organization will agree to that and it's not just "hope". But the other side is we are going to make mistakes as there are new coaches, players and systems in place and there is going to be a learing curve. Playoffs are a stretch in my opinion but I will never say "no way". Things may fall into place much earlier than expected.

If they do, I'll be smiling.

IMO Linehan has a lot to prove. You could have Kippy Brown calling the plays with a Randy Moss and Culpepper, and he would make a glorious chicken salad....or at least it would seem so.

Until Linehan makes lightnening strike twice, I believe most teams will have a reserved opinion of his -still yet to be proven- skills as an OC.

I think your way off on Scott Linehan, he HAS proven himself as an OC, however I do agree other teams will probably want to see him succeed here and learn some things about head coaching from Saban for 2 or 3 years before he is given a shot.

I am tired of hearing about winning in three years. Jimmy Johnsons dream never sufaced. Give me the Superbowl in two years

What's address do you want us to send it to?

:D

That's great news. On the contrary though, Len Pasqarelli (sp?) was just at dolphins camp the other day and had this to say on the Colin Cowherd Show on ESPN RADIO...

"Another Horrible team (referring to what he said about the Browns, but I will tell you this...the dolphins have by far the best, the very best practices I've ever seen in terms of structure, discipline, and organization. Saban runs a tight ship there's no doubt. This secures my image of what he will do in the NFL...there's no doubting that Saban will have a fantastic impact on the Dolphins and the NFL. Not another spurrier scenario for sure. As for talent and depth, they are lacking a lot, but Saban will definitely make a strong impact on the little things...like discipline and management."

So there are both sides of the issue. I love hearing any tid bit I can though.

i believe 9 wins is very achievable. A lot of teams are going to underestimate us. But if our O-line can create some decent holes for Ricky and Ronnie, our receivers stay healthy, and our D holds up w/ Daniels stepping up a rookie... I think we can compete for the division. Hate to admit it, but the Jets have a hell of a D-Line, but Pennington is a big "?" and Martin isnt going to have the year he had last year. The Bills have their share of problems especially with their O-line. Finally, the ol' Patsies IMO are going to have a tough season and struggle to win some games. Both coordinators, 2 starting LB's, Ty Law all gone. So 9 wins for our FINS is definitely something that can be done.

LP is no guru, and it would be simply impossible for him to accurately assess just how good or bad the 2005 Dolphins will be in only two days of observation early in training camp.

It makes for good reading for the football hungry but it should not be relied upon anymore than a "Magic 8-ball" regarding this teams future.

Scott is learning how to be a head coach, by watching how Saban is running this ship. Otherwise I do not think he would be HC material. Now w/ a year to learn how to run a tight ship and see the response that will be given by the team, he will have some nice tools to work with.
