NFL Network to broadcast 8 REGULAR SEASON games

The HD issue is a big concern of mine also. I really hope they don't screw us.

I'm hoping that every game will be in HD by next season, along with the NFL Network.

I thought local crews did preseason games and the NFL Network just carried the feed... I guess that may not be the case.

And to whoever asked, they did do a few preseason games a week in HD. The ones I saw over DirecTV looked surprisingly decent... when DirecTV actually remembered to flip the switch and put the game on. That's what worries me the most. DirecTV DOES show some NFL Network programming in HD, but not consistently. Some weeks we get Game of the Week, some weeks we don't. Same for Six Days to Sunday. Some of the preseason games advertised to be in HD came on, some didn't. It's a big crapshoot when they're using a separate channel to show HD content from a regular channel. I'd feel a lot better if they just carried a full-time NFL Network HD channel, if one became viable in the near future.

Until then, I guess we cross our fingers.

If I had it my way 2 Sunday games on NBC, 2 Sunday Games on CBS, 2 Sunday games on ABC, and two Sunday games on Fox...1 MNF game on ABC...all games on national broadcast channels...going to cable and it just sucks

The NFL Network only reaches 36 million homes. That is only a fraction of the number that have cable. I understand trying to grow your network, but a lot of these games are really important to the fans that cant get their channel. I think it is a mistake.

Before I get flamed, I cannot have a dish in this subdivision and my cable company does not carry NFL network

Does anyone have any info on the alleged expansion of the NFL into computer coverage ala MLBTV.com?

By doing this the NFL is forcing CABLE COMPANIES to pick up NFL network now. It's a stroke a genius on the part of the NFL.

Had a feeling that was going to happen, especially since they've been hinting at it since announcing the new TV contract.

Just remember one thing, the NFL just signed new TV deals with CBS, FOX, ESPN, and NBC. By the time the NEXT TV contract comes around, almost every game will probably be on PPV.

For example; You will have your 1 national game a week on CBS. 1 national game a week on FOX. 1 Sunday night game. 1 Monday night game. Then, the rest of the games will be on a PPV basis where if you want to watch say...Miami-Buffalo and that isn't one of the 4 nationaly televisied games, then you pay your $14.95 (or however much they will charge) that week to watch it. This will also eliminate things like BLACKOUTS and such for the non-nationaly televisied games as well.

The Sunday Ticket will still be around for the die-hards who want to watch EVERY game, but the way the TV industry is going with InDemand and such, its the future of sports on television in this country.

There was a really good article written about this a while back,I wish I would have saved the link.

I think this was a big mistake. Maybe a few years down the road it might be good, but right now there are jost not enough cable providers carrying this station, and many people cannot have dishes because they live in apartment or have strict homeowners association rules. Putting 8 games on NFL network will not force providers to carry this channel at all.

Question about this statement from the article........

The first game will be on Thanksgiving night, between the Dallas Cowboys and the Washington Redskins. All games will be simulcast on local broadcast stations in the markets of the teams playing.

Lets say Miami plays Detroit on turkey day, does this mean if you dont have NFL Network or you dont live in the Detroit and/or Miami market, you cant see the game? I have NFL network, just wondering for others.

Thanks

So who carries the NFL Network besides DIRECTV?

yup, it means you cant see the game. If the NFL insists on showing games on NFL network , they should at least start with low profile games.

Hardly anyone in the SE...brighthouse and adelphia dont have it. I think comcast does in some areas, but not sure.

Comcast does carry it. I have Directv so it isn't an issue with me. This will force cable companies to carry it though, if you call them. If you want to see the network, you have to call your local cable provider until they register enough request/complaints to justify bringing it in. Remember, these folks just don't have carte blanche with stations. They actually have a cost to them as well. Once they feel their market is big enough for them to carry a network, then they will.

However, if you just remain silent and odn't call them, then they have no way of knowing if you would watch said network or not. Putting these games on the NFL Network will most likely cause a rise in demand for the station, "forcing" cable ocmpanies to go ahead and pay to pick it up.
