From league rulings given out by the Commissioner to the horrible officiating, the NFL is looking more and more like the NBA where marketing matters more than the integrity of the game. Everytime I see the Pacmans of the league, do you think if he played for Detroit he would still be playing and when I see the horrendous officiating in the league week in and week out, I lower my head in disgust and wonder where the league I grew up loving has gone.
 
i kind of feel you. not totally but i get where you are coming from.
 
The NBA is a joke. Biggest differnce between the two is TONS of people watch the NFL.

I would be willing to bet that worldwide the NBA gets far more viewers. I lived in Scotland 12 years ago, and there were guys there that knew more about the Lakers than I did,...and I was coming from LA.

Goodell is clearly trying to emulate David Stern in all ways. Proactive as a disciplinarian, proactive in going global with the brand. Smart moves. I don't think he is doing it as well as David Stern, but he is clearly following the same road map.
 
The NBA is much more crooked than the NFL, theyre out in the open with it these days, like boxing. With the relevations about the ref that was caught betting on games is proof positive the refs are crooked. The NFL is close with their love of the Pats and other bigtime franchises(you would think Miami would be one of them), but the NBA is just out in the open.

um, Adam Jones is still playing, as is Kevin Faulk..and Matt Jones...

Clearly, Goodell is picky about which players he wants to be stern with. Theres players whove nearly gotten kicked out of the NFL for lesser offenses than those three. How Goodell handled the Patriots fiasco was shady and irresponsible. But its a business and an team caught cheating is obviously bad for business, and it was best to "destroy all the evidence" and end the investigation when it was revealed Belichick had been cheating for at least seven years going back to 2000. That means everything the Pats have won comes under scrutiny. But Goodell knows the Pats are good for business because they have a teen hearthrob of a QB, patriotic theme, and are popular with fans.
 
What's wrong with NBA? David Stern does a great job with the NBA. If Pacman was on a different team i'd expect the same punishment. In fact I believe if Matt Jones was in the nba he'd be suspended.

what's funny is that if matt light threw those punches in the nba, he'd be suspended for a month.
 
The NBA is an abysmal league with a horrible product built around selfish players who simply can't play fundamental basketball.

It's not in the same stratosphere as the NFL even if i did have more World Wide viewers which i'm skeptical about.

College Hoops is FAR superior to the NBA. The season isnt as DREADFULLY long, the playoffs last 3 weeks, and the players seem to play more as a team.

The NBA with its 24 second shot clock is almost unwatchable. It basically turns into a half court game of 1 on 1. Especially at the end when teams have a years supply of timeouts to burn. All of the flow of the game that has been created is RUINED and the teams take turns calling timeout every 5 seconds after the other team scores. They set up a play to go against the other teams worst defender and waahlaaa....a basket. Hardly anyone plays D anymore in that league. Its really a disgrace.

As for the worldwide viewers thing.....maybe so. But, remember.....soccer has ALOT more worldwide viewers. The fact that they care most about soccer in other countries tells me not to pay attention to what they are watching. It holds no water. In America, people watch FOOTBALL. Hardly anyone watches the NBA anymore. Its a joke.

The NBA made a nice comeback with the Showtime Lakers in the 80's and it lasted up till the years in which the league cheated for the Jordan Bulls. After their 6 title run was over, so was the NBA's. In fact, I dont even watch sportscenter this time of year....I cant. Too many LEBRON highlites. Too much Steve Smith trying to cross over and commentate on other sports since he is already around to do NBA. I cant keep it on ESPN and roll over just listening to the set as I go to sleep....NBA fastbreak might come on. Nah, I just put it on NFL network. All football.

How many people watch the WNBA? Fundamental basketball is not going to get viewers. Nobody in the U.S. is in the same stratosphere as the NFL. Really two teams could take knees for 60 minutes and people would still watch.

Maybe not, but i bet the lack of it lost the NBA a lot of viewers. Including myself.

I get your arguement. Though most casual fans did not want to watch the San Antonio Spurs and their "team," basketball. Or even to a lesser extent the Detroit Pistons. The NBA is not failing. It's not the NFL but nothing is.

The NHL has probably the most fan friendly players. I think they give the best interviews also. Yet that sport is buried on Versus. It just had two marquee franchises play in the finals and it's forgotten among casual fans. The NBA season drags on. Plus with the Olympics it's like their hasn't been a break from basketball.

The only thing I think Stern needs to do with the NBA is quit giving teams 5 days off during the playoffs. Keep the momentum from games. He won't do it because of the almighty dollar. Though the playoffs in the NBA last an eternity. Also like baseball I think it hurts to have late start times. I'm sorry people on the west coast. Sports sets itself up for timeslots because they want to get the East coast viewers. Start a game at 10:30 on a weekday and how many people can actually watch?
