NFL News : The Miami Dolphins Offensive Line "Unimaginably Pathetic"

All I see on here is excuses, the same excuses I have heard for over a decade. NO, other teams do not have the same issue we have when 1 lineman goes down. NO, no other team has had this same issue for over a decade now. Chris G has done well at many things, but he has absolutely sucked in addressing the OL. Our 2 best players on the OL are high priced FA's. One is very subject to injury, and the other wants even more money before he plays again. Our best draft pick is a slightly above average guard in Hunt.

Everyone wants a dominant OL? No, around here we would take an average OL that can consistently be at least average throughout the year. Instead we have a line that when healthy still only ranks in the low 20's and when 1 player goes down, drops to dead last. Stop sugar coating the issue and fooling yourself! Another year, another OL coach that is being brought in to try to fix what can't be fixed when you lack talent and depth PERIOD!

This hope for the best mentality has gotten really old for a very long time.

I blame the "Lemmings"! - LOL

Grier hasn't ignored it at all. We've spent tons of resources trying to put together a line. Top tier FAs, and high draft picks. Whether those players pan out or not is a different story but to say it's been ignored is ridiculous.

One word coach. How many years how many oline coaches. Most poster here would fail to meet their potential if they had a different boss every year of their career

Heh!
I was a union employee working in a unit managed by a contract management company...
By my 10th year, I was exhausted by the back and forth movement caused by one new manager after another. Each one would be positive that his predecessor was an idiot and change everything around.
After awhile, we just ignored them and did our own thing.

Didn’t watch the vid, but more so the conversation around our OL is a valid one. Last season, our OL *at its peak* was league average and spent the majority of time well below that.

I understand all the reasons why it wasn’t addressed - it’s not like we didn’t improve a lot of other places - but it’s just a risky gamble to take.

Coming into this offseason we were again saying the OL was a weakness… it was a top 2-3 issue for this team and the one that did not get addressed.. hedge your bets by continually investing into the OL - but especially if you’re Miami and you haven’t had a good OL for 10 straight years.. that’s really insane that we continue to field horrible or inconsistent OL teams year after year.

I’ve said it plenty of times but if you had to quickly list Griers biggest fault it is his inability to identify OL talent.

I’m not sure how many people would be able to tell the difference between our OL performance last year and “average”

Our pass block win rate was 55% (24th). The Saints at 16th was 60%.

The Eagles had 62% and were 12th.

Run block win rate we were 21st at 71%

The 16th best team was the Titans on … 71%!

The Eagles were 2nd in this metric at 75%

Would definitely like to have better and more consistent line play … but if average is what you’re looking for … panic over!
21st and 24th would put you as well below average in both of those categories.

So basically, in the 6-8 games we were healthy we were a 15-20th ranked squad… when injuries eventually happened as we knew they would, we we had a few bad OL performances where our OL was ranking 27th-30th bad.

Us being average overall would mean we actually a good number of games where we played some top10 level on OL.

I know it is not a big revelation, but I have mo clue why the GM and organization seem to feel as though it is of secondary importance. I have been saying this since Grier has taken over. I hope it works out, but why would you build the rest of the team and patch work the O-Line. He's right when he says that you better pray TA stays healthy, but you know he is going to get hurt at an inopportune time and when that happens the cracks in the dam are going to show up.

Whilst I would’ve like to have seen more of an investment here as many of my brothers here, let’s see how it goes first after training camp before we make any judgements no? Can’t we?
