i understand the difficulty of being an nfl official, but after a weekend of pro football that started on thursday one thing is clear to me: with the parity in the nfl, poor officiating is deciding too many football games. what makes it ever worse is that they still get calls wrong even after replay. and the rule that being down by contact disallows review for a fumble is retarded. what if the player is ruled down by contact but really wasn't? sorry. you can't review that.

My problem with the officiating is that nothing really gets done to officials or officiating crews that continously make bad calls/no calls especially in crucial situations. The only thing that happens is that the league sends a letter to the teams apologizing for the mistake. What consolation is that? I want to see people suspended or fired for multiple offenses! As an owner or a coach of a team that has gotten hosed by refs and receives a letter from the NFL, it would piss me off more that you admitted to being wrong and your writing a letter to tell me about it. It's not going to turn the L into a W so WTF?

Man the refs just blew a bigtime call against the Chiefs. Chief WR clearly fumbled the ball at the end of like a 65yd pass but they called him down by contact. Such an obviously blown call. So dumb.

I did not hear a whistle on that play, I think the rule should be that if a whistle isnt blown (when the ball was picked up, the denver player was tackled) it should be reviewable....

I thought it said somewhere that if the ref doesn't have ABSOLUTE certainty that they can't overturn a call? If that is the case, we should be where McMike first dropped his feet...

Anyone see the Jets game. Chad Pennington fumbled, it was recovered by the Bengals. They reviewed it, called it a fumble, but gave it to the Jets. Also, what's up with the way they make the calls. Yesterday, on the onside kick, the ref says " Miami Recovered the ball, but is not entitled to it". I mean, the way it was put was purely unprofessional.

Totally agree. I was sitting there watching the game, thinking to myself,
"what the hell kind of explanation is that?"

that's Tom White for you. they looked so confused too.
Tom White is the worst ref in the league. He and his crew have put the screws to us more times over the past 7 or 8 years than I can count. I cringe when ever I see he is refing our game.

It's funny that you say that because I was sitting in the stands thinking that this has to be the most inept crew that I have EVER seen in my life. I never really gave any thought to their past mistakes.

anyone watching the Denver,KC game can agree with this...refs couldnt even spot the ball right for a FG. last 3 seconds of the half take 10 minutes...it is ridiculous stuff

LOL.... Joe Theisman and the other one are hilarious!

This is a joke in Denver, What the heck is going on. The refs look clueless. Bravo for Geen in pointing out the error.
