Some of you may know me from the CFL/Ricky Williams monster thread but this question isn't applicable to that and I think this is the best place to ask.
In the NCAA, punting distance is calculated from the LOS to the point at which the ball is caught or called dead.
Does the NFL do this as well or is NFL punting distance calculated from the point of the kick (7-ish yards behind the LOS)?
Is there a source on the web you can point me to that illustrates this? I looked at the nfl.com rule book, and unless I overlooked it completely, they don't provide any information on how the various statistical yardage is calculated.
