Jason O Watson-US PRESSWIRE

In round one of the 2012 NFL draft the Miami Dolphins drafted their franchise QB in Ryan Tannehill. In round two the ‘Phins drafted an offensive tackle from Stanford University. A guy who protected the blindside of #1 overall draft pick Andrew Luck. Welcome to the NFL, Jonathan Martin.
The 6’6″ 310 pound Martin was ranked only behind Matt Kalil (taken #4 overall by Minnesota Vikings) and Riley Reiff (#23 overall to Detroit Lions) as far as o-lineman go for this years draft. Miami allowed long-time tackle Vernon Carey to walk away in the off-season, thus an opportunity was born for Martin. He mainly played left tackle at Stanford, but did see some action at right tackle. Word is he has certain work to do to get up to NFL standards, but he is off to a good enough start to be considered the starting right tackle for the 2012 Miami Dolphins. The left tackle is spoken for (Jake Long…check out my Jake Long article here) but it is looking like Martin has a chance to move to the right side with success in the League.

I fully expect him to start and we really need him to play well.

Let me be the first to say "I was wrong about this guy". The weakness he showed in college doesn't seem to be the problem I thought it would be at this point in camp. The fact that we almost never hear his name is a good thing. I really thought he would be overmatched for his first year. Glad I was wrong, we need him to really have a solid year, and from early reports it seems that is where he is headed.

I wouldn't call that a rumor as much as a likelihood since Martin has been running with the 1st team for quite some time. The author should have realized that the top OL prospect, by a long shot, was David DeCastro. I still can't believe that he fell to #24. Leave it to the Steelers, what a great pick. The Bears choked on that one big time, they should have ran to the podium with DeCastro's name on a card and drafted a pass rusher in the 2nd rd instead of drafting Alshon Jeffrey, especially since they traded for a similar and much better player beforehand in Brandon Marshall. McClellan is a good player, but the Fins drafted Olivier Vernon in the 3rd round, 'nuff said.

I thought that's what we drafted him for, to start.............

i'd wait til he plays in the preseason and see how he fares before i'd crown him a week 1 starter...although to date the reports are encouraging...anyone see bobbie massie the rt for the cards yesterday 2nd string get destroyed by martell webster i think it was...zonas in trouble at tackle...

i only say the name massie cause i liked his value more later in the draft for a right tackle than i did martin so high given i figured martin was a year away and well i'd be wrong if what i saw from massie yesterday is what he has to offer...dreadful in pass pro

Would be nice to hit it big on one of our highly drafted lineman. Looks like Jerry will be cut soon. If Martin pans out it puts us in nice shape at both Tackles and Center posn.

Bobbie Massie was someone I really liked in the draft, but I wonder if he would have fit our Zone Scheme. I think Martin is a perfect fit for our O-Line.

he played in a zbs at ole miss to my knowledge...but seriously yesterday he was terrible

Getting a starter on a second round pick would be nice for a change.

I think you can pretty much write Martin's name in pen on the depth chart. He is the starting right tackle.

The combination of need vs.. value that Ireland and Phiblin adressed in tis year´s draft was very exciting...very hard to predict, but amazing within itself. Makes me drool for next year´s draft!!
