Comparabe to Santana Moss, and like Moss, if he’s to have a nice career it might take a little time. He’s obviously a very dangerous receiver who has the ability to change a game at when he gets the ball in his hands – so he will have a good chance to help a team this year as#3 and especially as a returner. He’ll be able to use his speed and quickness to consistently gain separation in the NFL, and he’ll be a great vertical threat who will stretch the field from Day One. He will need a year or two before he’s ready to put up good numbers as a starter. Ginn is projected by many as going relatively early in the 1st round, and if he does, it will likely be to a team that needs him badly right now, such as the Vikings, 49ers, or Texans. That would certainly be good for Ginn’s value in 2007.

Here is a TRUE draft review of Ginn from a NFL TEAMS analysis on Ginn. A buddy of mine is a area scout for the Patricia's and let me read the draft day report. Just so you understand this is not just 1 persons review of Ginn with the Pat's. this is the collective breakdown on the guy from all scouts and coaches within the org. I know many of us would never have a chance to see how a NFL team feels anbout a player and all we hear is what the media says but there you have it. It was not a reach to take Ginn where we did. My buddy told me that Ginn was clearly a top 10 pick on many boards in the legue and was considered the #2 WR behind Calvin Johnson.

I'm not posting this to defend the pick just though it was nice to see what another team, especially NE (I hate to say it but the most dominante team in the recent years, and a team within the division) has to say about Ginn.

There was also some negatives about him as well. The report pointed out that he was very easy to bring down and could not fight for extra yardage. There is a concern regarding him getting off of press coverage at the LOS. He will also need a strong weight program. Will need to work on catching with hands more in traffic.

That's very strange, because I saw a guy who was actually hard to bring down, especially for his size. I saw defenders either flat out miss him, or his ridiculous shiftiness caused their once squared up shoulders to not look so squared up anymore resulting in a "glancing blow" and Ginn still off to the races. I also saw many tackles shed by just his arms. Most don't realize the kind of tremendous upper body strength a world class sprinter has to have to run like that.

Everything that I read is true of most receivers coming out of college.

I'm not worried about him being "easy" to bring down because receivers like Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne and Torry Holt are also easy to bring down. I would prefer for Ginn, in order to keep from taking that big hit, to just get down so he can get up for the next play.

Hey didn't write the report. I saw the same things that you saw. I think the size and strength thing is over rated. I think people forget that we are talking about a college player going into the pro's and not an seasoned Vet. I'm sure with a pro program that he will gian size and strengh in due time.

Agreed, especially with size and strength being overrated (or underrated). In this case, it's what makes the player.

I think what is meant is that if you DO catch him, he's easy to bring down. He makes people miss tackles, but he doesn't break them. It's a minor weakness, but in a scouting report needs to be pointed out. There are some WR's who flat out avoid contact, Marvin Harrison comes to mind. It is known he will avoid contact at all costs, I've watched him flop to the ground on many occasions.

Yeah the reason he's not tackled often is because he has so much short-area quickness that by the time you break down and square up, you end up with just a glancing shot at him.

I will say this, from what I saw he has good upper body strength, very big arms, which has already helped him break tackles and should continue to help him break tackles in the pros. His arms always surprise me how big they are. Someone who knows a thing or two about track stars in VIP once pointed out to me that he has what all super fast track stars must have and that is a strong upper body...you have to be strong up there because it's an integral part of your balance when you're trying to run at such fast speeds.

exactly......... people are just seeking out any negatives and beating them to death. The 1 thing you don't do so well is the reason you stink... to many people atleast.

You'd think this thread would be more popular. I mean here we have someone posting an actual scouting report paragraph from an actual member of the Patriots' personnel department.

Put that together with the scouting reports from guys like Russ Lande, Frank Coyle, and Charlie Casserly...not to mention a guy I know that works in the Redskins front office. All think highly of Ted Ginn.

can you imagine how amazing it must feel to run that fast.... i guess you could say i'm a running enthusiast, and a quick SOB myself. When i hit top speed it really feels like i'm just floating over the ground, and it amazes me how little effort it takes..... to be able to fly like Ginn must be WiLd !!!!
