Watching sportscenter and they mentioned it. They are also debating about it on PTI.

According to the NFL, kickoffs are the most dangerous play in football and a high percentage of injuries occur because of kickoffs.

In my own opinion, football is naturally a game of high-speed collisions. It shouldn't even be in question whether to take kickoffs out of the game. We pay to see these guys play, and they get paid very well because of their skill and because of the risks involved. I am losing more and more respect for the NFL trying to turn this into some kind of pedestrian game.

What are your thoughts?

I dont think it will happen but thats great news for us. We havnt been able to find a frikin KR for years and our coverage units have been garbage (althought our STs werent too bad last year). What have we scored like 4 TDs on ST for the past 15 years???

I would be furious if I was a Bears, Pats, Eagles, or Ravens fan. A team like the Bears win games with STs alone. You could argue the Bears went to the Superbowl based on great Defense and STs.

NFL is not considering this. One owner on the competition committee (cant remember which one) sugested the other day in an interview thath maybe kickoffs should be scrapped and said he would bring it up at the next meeting. I doubt anyone is actually considering it. ESPN is just stirring the pot and making mountains out of molehills again.

Probably the owners of the teams in the Bears division

Kickoffs are a major part of football. It's symbolic of starting the game. That would be ridiculously stupid.

Lets just ditch the helmets and pads and start playing professional flag football. Trying to remove the violence from an inherently violent sport can only go so far.

NFL's way of getting to an 18 game season. Reduce injuries and risk

This would also mean eliminating the onside kick which would be a dumb move by the NFL. By doing this they would take away one of the most exciting plays in the game, the potential of a last minute comeback which otherwise would not happen. I guess if it ain't broke, fix it :chuckle:

They might actually make a rule that says you can only line up for a kick if it is onside.
Might just spoil that element of surprise....... And all the fun. :err::lol:
