NFL To Make Rushing The Passer Reviewable - Partially Due To Phillips

I agree something needed to be done. When the refs can take control of a game it's maddening to me. Absolutely no way that was a roughing the passer call on Phillips. It's about time the NFL stands up and make some type of adjustments to this rule. It's like they want to wrap every QB in bubble wrap because they are the big selling points. Thing is they make all this money because they play a violent sport, and if they don't want to get hurt then maybe they should take up tiddly winks. I honestly blame Brady in large part for this, there have been many rule changes because their golden boy wasn't happy

I doubt there will be any "downward" adjustment in the rule. It's the owners who ultimately decide, and when they have 200mil invested in a QB, they are going to protect that investment as much as possible.

From what I gathered from the article, changing the rule is not the focus. The focus is to get the call right, given the current rules.

Many are happy and on its face value sounds good... but this will die a quick death due to making the games longer blah blah blah....the whole reason we've had entire seasons with no instant replay was due to the time issue...we dont even have real replay because we must limit it to challenges which if lost get penalized so as to disuade them so refs can keep control of whatever ....granted its not due to the excessive commercials and breaks...no no can't be that ....it is due to needless things like trying to make the game legit such as this

the "makes the game longer" argument in this instance is dumb, IMO. At most you have 1, maybe (in rare instances) 2, roughing the passer calls in any given game. Going to a replay for a foul that barely happens once per game on average will delay the game maybe 2-3 minutes max. Totally worth it to get this kind of call right.

They won't look at it like that...the proof? They never have. This penalty has been on the books since forever and just now they are going to do that? The argument in that owners meeting will be if for this penalty then what about other sometimes questionable calls like holding? What about pass interference? Etc.

That one was rough…. He did bear his weight on him initially then pulled up as they went to the ground… should have been a sack. You win some, you lose some.
